It took great pictures on vacation.
|Posted .I bought it to take to Las Vegas, Grand Canyon & Hoover Dam. It took great pictures. The backlight works great. I took 180 degree pictures of the Dam and the Canyon. My pictures of Vegas at night were colorful.
I would recommend this to a friendRating 5 out of 5 stars with 1 review

Great camera for a family
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWe actually had the previous model, but it was stolen so we were in the market for a new camera. After looking at, and playing with, all the cameras in the store we decided we were just going to get the new model of the one we had stolen. Partly due to our familiarity, but also due to our enjoyment of the last camera. This Nikon has a lot of great features and it's really simple to use. It takes wonderful photographs and the shutter speed is fast enough to catch all 3 of our kids in action. You don't have to be a photography major to figure it out either. They changed the way the flash pops up on this model and I'm not a huge fan because my finger is on it most of the time. Other than that we really like this camera.

Flash popping up has its pros and cons.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendPopping up feature of the flash can be good, meaning that you know it is going to flash or not before you shoot, but sometimes when you or someone else is taking the picture, by having their finger on top of the flash area, it won't pop up completely and as a result you have to repeat your last picture if at all possible to get that same pose and if not you lost an opportunity. my other cameras always had built in flash to the body and not popping up and I think I prefer it that way. Zoom is great, the video button directly goes to video and starts and stops it with one button, is a great feature and the fact I can use the zoom feature while I'm taking video is a plus. all my other cameras I couldn't do that while I was using the video mode. I would have to first zoom and then start the video and that is crazy. This camera is new for me and I haven't really seen the quality of video and pics yet and I will come back and add more comments later. Good luck.

Very Good Zoom, OK Pictures
|Posted .No, I would not recommend this to a friendI use my camera nearly every day to record family pictures and videos. I got this Nikon to replace the Cannon I had for years. I was shopping for a high end point-and-shoot that did not have GPS or Wi-Fi, these are things I don't need or want. For starters the battery on this thing is nothing special, it is adequate but its only half the life of the cannon I had. Nikon does not even give you a real charger, they give you this chincy cable that plugs into the camera. The camera turns on and is ready to shoot pretty quickly but is VERY slow with follow up shots, if you try to push any buttons after taking a pic it gives this message "please wait while camera records image", this is not very cool but it goes away after a second or two, or three. Picture quality is OK. If you crop your pictures much you will see some HEAVY image processing by this camera. This Nikon does well in low light, they did a good job with this. If you use zoom much you will really appreciate this Nikon. I can zoom in on birds, ships, planes etc. with unbelievable detail for a point-and-shoot camera. Also the Macro on this camera is a little weaker than I would expect for a $300 camera. If you really want a good camera you will use for years to record important life memories then keep looking, this camera is on the edge of sucking, but not quite that bad.

Love the optical zoom
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis was bought as a replacement for our old Canon digital camera that had 3x optical zoom. This one has 18x optical zoom so you get much crisper zoom photos. Using everything on Auto works great out of the box but the other settings are slightly confusing for the casual user. I do not like how the flash pops up on the upper left of the camera when needed. It seems like a cool feature for it to be slid away when not needed, but we often are holding a finger where the flash is and that impedes it popping up which results in a ruined picture we have to re-take.

Excellent for its size
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendHad a previous model with about the same charge/transfer jack. If you use this camera a lot this jack will eventually fail. Its design is just not very good and will never last as long as the rest of the camera parts. Aside from this, it takes great pictures, and for its size, has excellent zoom capability. Because of the jack issue I would reccomend purchasing an extended warranty.

An awesome camerafor anyone
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis camera is great for someone who wants something practical and portable but still has lots of options. This camera does it all! You can use it in complete darkness, low light, bright light, and sunny days. You can also take photos in different color schemes including black and white, sepia, and where it only picks up one color in the photo. It also has lots of effects that you can add after you take the photo such as fisheye. But don’t worry when you edit the photo you also have a copy of the original saved. Another cool feature is the 180 and 360 panoramic shots you can take! It’s the nicest camera I have ever had and I am completely satisfied with my purchase!
Q: QuestionDoes this camera have built-in HDR capability?I was browsing one of these in the local store and I thought I saw a selection for HDR (high dynamic range) in the Menu.
Asked by Steve1705.
- A:Answer Yes, the HDR is explained on page 37 of the full 252 page manual that you can download from the Nikon website (camera comes with only a quick-start guide). Here is the excerpt from the manual: W Backlighting • Press the d button to select On or Off for HDR (high dynamic range) composition on the screen displayed after Backlighting is selected. • Off (default setting): The flash fires to prevent the backlit subject from being hidden in shadow. • On: Use when taking pictures with very bright and dark areas in the same frame. • The camera focuses at the center area of the frame.

Q: QuestionCan you crop photos in camera?I had a Nikon camera and could crop photos in camera. Current salespeople never have heard of this. Can this still be done on the S9000 and which models if any?
Asked by Mableleen.
- A:Answer Yes. The S9400 offers this and it works the same as other Nikon models. Preview your photo, then zoom in using the camera zoom button and move around with the directional wheel. You'll see a new on-screen option to crop to the current screen using the menu key. This will save the crop as a new image on your memory card.
