Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I am a new to the world of photography and I wanted a camera that was easy to use, eith a good set of capabilities. Reading the reviews from users as well as professional reviews and this who have a few years of using this model, the reviews were excellent. It takes really good pictures and even though some said they have had problems with snapbridge and wi-fi, I've had no issues. I am very pleased with this camera! I think this is an excellent choice for a first timer.

Great Entry Level DSLR
Great Entry Level DSLR
|Posted .Pros mentioned:Picture quality, PriceCons mentioned:Low light capabilityAs I write this review, I have taken approximately 2000 shots and have put the D5600 and both kit lenses through most of the paces. I am an amateur photographer/videographer, exclusively using my gear for home/family work. My advice for anyone growing into this hobby is always get the most camera you are willing to bring with you. If its too heavy, too big, too complicated, too expensive, etc., you wont bring it with you and you will just be throwing away money. The Nikon D5600 is the most camera I am willing to bring with me. The Canon T7i is a fantastic direct competitor as well, and you should give it serious consideration. At the end of the day, the T7i is slightly heavier, considerably less battery life, and more expensive. Although, it does have better autofocus, slightly faster fps burst, and in camera stabilization. Whichever you choose, they are both great overall entry level DSLR's. It comes down to what you value more. I highly value less weight and longer battery life, and the D5600 wins these categories. The Nikon D3400 and D7500 are also great choices if you simply must get Nikon. I found that the D3400 (and similar) is just missing too lacking in many features and capabilities vs the D5600. It is less weight and gets even more battery life, but they definitely cut corners on the D3400. Important corners. In fact, many cheaper and more convenient point and shoots can perform the same or better than the D3400, so why not just get something that fits in your pocket. The D7500 is better than the D5600, but again its what you value. Image quality and low light capability differences between those two are not far apart, and you would be splitting hairs to declare a winner. What you will get with the D7500 is faster fps burst with a deeper buffer, better autofocus, weather sealing, in camera focus drive (for older lenses), better shutter life expectancy, and a few other minor things. However, it is significantly heavier, double the cost, and less friendly view screen. Seasoned pro's could probably carry the D7500 just fine for hours on end. I was tired of holding it just after 15 mins. Ive carried the D5600 for 4 hours and not got tired. That means the D5600 comes with, and the D7500 does not. After about 2000 shots and a few hours of video, I am loving my D5600. It has met or exceeded all my photography and videography expectations. And, I feel like I have room to grow with it, which is also important to me. No, it doesnt do 4k video. No, its not high bitrate. The video capabilities are for the occasional video, and its good enough for that. In find the photo capabilities to be outstanding for this price point. There are better cameras for photo, but not anywhere near this price point. I have attached two samples, since that is all BB lets you attach to reviews. These are with the 18-55VR and 70-300 (non-VR) kit lenses. The flower shot is not enhanced. The moon shot is minimally enhanced, because, well, the moon is very bright. Speaking of the lenses, dont listen to the naysayers. The 18-55VR and 70-300 (non-VR) are both very capable and perfectly serviceable lenses. The 18-55VR is a no brainer, and you should absolutely get that one if you dont already have it. The 70-300 is not VR and that is a con in some situations. It is mostly a tripod lens, but that doesnt mean you cant get at least ok shots with it (see moon shot). The 55-200 VR is currently on sale around one fifty, you should consider that instead or in addition to the 70-300 non-VR. Yes, there are better lenses than these. However, they can get very expensive really quick. For the price of these three lens you cant go wrong. In summary, this is a great entry level DSLR that rivals much more expensive cameras where it counts, yet is small and light enough that you will want to bring it with you all the time. Sure, it doesnt get 4k video. Its not going to get the low light capabilities of the full frames. It doesnt have ridiculously fast bursts with a buffer as deep as the ocean. As far as all around shooters go, however, you would be hard pressed to find this many features and capabilities in this small and light package, and anywhere near this price point (outside of the Canon T7i). Eventually, mirrorless interchangeable cameras may render the entry level DSLR obsolete, but that day is not today. If thats your thing, great. Have at it. Make sure to bring 3-4 extra batteries and a bucket of ice. If you don’t want to spend your day changing batteries and continually have to stop for the camera to cool down, the D5600 is a great choice for smaller and lighter.

Q: QuestionWhat macro lense should I buy for the D5600 to use it to take digital pix of old photos? The bundle comes with 18-55mm and 70-300mm lens. But, is that going to work for taking pix of photos 10"-25" away from camera?
Asked by pacnwgal
- A:Answer The bundled AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm would suffice, it has a minimum focus distance of about 0.9ft (about 10.8in or 0.25m) so it meets the range you are looking for. If you would like an additional lens for macro photography, we would recommend looking into the AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Macro Lens.

Q: QuestionPlanning to upgrade my D3000. While researching I found two DSLR with great features D5600 and D7200. but there is a big price difference. Is it worth taking D7200 compare to D5600 ? I am not a Pro but photography is my hobby. What al lens should I take?
Asked by Nirmal
- A:Answer If Photography is your hobby I would definitely choose the D5600. Great camera for all your needs and a huge upgrade from the D3000. If your trying to make money off your photography choose the D7200 and really learn how to shoot manual.

Asked by kyla

Q: QuestionI have been looking to upgrade from a Nikon Coolpix L840. The entry level DSLR cameras do not seem to have many more features than what I have now. Is this a good pick for me? My interests are landscape & family pics. Thanks!
Asked by Amanda
- A:Answer Upgrading to an entry level DSLR camera from your COOLPIX L840 would be a good pick for a beginner photographer interested in landscape and family photos. The interchangeable lenses offered with DSLR cameras allow for a very wide range of optical zoom. Although entry-level DSLR cameras also offer easy point-and-shoot settings similar to your COOLPIX, these cameras also offer the option to learn and use more advanced settings offered on professional level cameras. The overall image quality between a COOLPIX and DSLR camera is also vastly improved.

Q: QuestionCAn you please tell me what the difference between the D 5500 and the 5600 Nikon Camera is? I plan on buying one for landscapes, graduations, and artistic pictures, but are confused about which one to get. THank you!
Asked by MAggie
- A:Answer D5500 can't connect wifi photo tranfer and can't do time laps. And there might be one other thing but as far as quality and processors, All the same. Also the d5500 don't have remote monitoring..... meaning you can't set a camera down on a tripod and watch on your cell phone and take a pic/vid and see what it's doing and control you camera with your phone.
Answered by Robbi
Q: QuestionDoes this camera have a remote to take a picture?
Asked by anne
- A:Answer It doesn’t come with one but you can use your I Phone or Android as a remote trigger and monitor using Nikon’s SnapBridge App. It does have a delay timer with a light that flashes when it snaps the photo.

Q: QuestionDoes this camera work ok without image stabilization? Let’s say I’m on a moving boat and see a dolphin, will my pictures be clear?
Asked by Newbie
- A:Answer The D5600 works perfectly fine without internal image stabilization while on a completely still platform. Having a VR (vibration reduction) lens will certainly help to maintain a clearer image while on a moving platform such as a boat. A lens with the 'active' VR setting would be ideal. However, if your lens does not have the active mode, or any VR mode at all, you should still be able to capture a useable photo by increasing the shutter speed.

Q: QuestionDoes this camera have the multiple picture feature? I’ve been wanting to upgrade and work with DSLR camera but wanting to make sure I have this feature
Asked by Roxy
- A:Answer The Nikon D5600 offers many different ways to capture multiple images. This camera will offer Continuous shooting at about 5 frames per second to capture any action. It also features High Dynamic Range Photography which will allow you to take multiple images at different exposures and automatically combine them into one image. If you have any other questions about these features or others please contact Nikon Customer Support.
