|Posted .I expect the electronic viewfinder with the histogram will really help me take my photography to the next level. I also like the compact size, and that I can use the Nikon glass I already own with the FTZ. This is my 5th and favorite Nikon.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Low light, Picture qualityCons mentioned:PriceI have to admit, I was nervous about going mirrorless. I was looking at this and the D750. I read mixed stuff about jumping into Nikon’s mirrorless line since it was so young, but I’m so glad I did. It has so many features! The workability is very similar to the DSLR too, contrary to what I had heard. One of my favorite things that I didn’t know about was that it will automatically change modes for the type of sensor your lens is for (FX or DX). I also love that the viewfinder or live view will adjust to your eye as you change settings (e.g., if you increase shutter speed, the image you see get darker to give you a better idea of what your image will look like). It also works very well in low light. I used it on 20,000 iso and it was way better than my D5300 on like 6400. Negative: It uses an XQD card - they’re expensive. But, it will hold more on smaller GB. I have a 64 and it will hold over 1,000 pics. PS: the turtle images are pictures off my desktop.

Posted .Pros mentioned:Low light, Picture qualityI was trying to decide between the Canon EOS R, Nikon Z7 and the Nikon Z6. I am glad I got the Z6! I bought it with the package lens. Trust me, you will not regret it! I currently have Nikon D7500 and now I have to sell it! Do not be deceived by the megapixels, the price that Canon EOS R and Nikon Z7 are offering. Z6 is a bad boy! takes really sharp pictures from low light, to slow mo, to continous shots, bokeh and much more. Take it for a test drive !

Great Full Frame Mirrorless
Great Full Frame Mirrorless
|Posted .Pros mentioned:Ease of use, Focus, Low lightCons mentioned:Battery, Price, Wi-fiI would recommend this to a friendI actually drove about an hour each way to see this camera in person and try it out (since these are difficult to find in stores). I actually was looking at it as a essentially a sanity check, because I was strongly leaning toward the D750 instead of this camera. One of my main concerns about switching to mirrorless was, of course, EVFs vs OVFs. I will say this - the EVF on most modern mirrorless cameras is excellent, but what Nikon has done with the Z series OLED EVF is a step above. In certain very low light situations, an OVF is probably a little bit better, but overall, I now prefer the EVF. The exposure preview is excellent (although this is true on just about any mirrorless). The main advantage to this camera over other mirrorless cameras is usability and ergonomics. This camera has an excellent user interface and the ergonomics are superb. It feels great to hold. Not all is perfect about this camera. Many reviewers complained that the camera only has one card slot. This is a valid concern, but it is not insurmountable. For photographers that need redundancy, the camera has WiFi built-in, and can automatically transfer files to a computer over that WiFi connection. It isn't perfect and I certainly would prefer two card slots, but for me at least, it isn't a dealbreaker. This camera does use XQD instead of SD cards. Some users have complained about the switch because XQD is much more expensive than SD. This is true - XQD cards are expensive. However, I'm very happy with the switch - 14-bit uncompressed RAW files out of this camera get close to 50MB. The data transfer speed of XQD is much, much faster than SD, and this is the kind of camera that needs it. Nikon says CFExpress support is coming soon in a firmware update, so I would probably buy as few cards as you need (along with a card reader) and wait for the even faster CFExpress. For now though, I'm really impressed with XQD compared to SD - I think it is worth the significant price bump. Some might like the touchscreen, and I've found it useful in a few instances. However, I've also accidently taken pictures I didn't want to with the touchscreen. I generally find the buttons easier, but the touchscreen is there if I want to use it. Battery life is not a good as many DSLRs, but that is the nature of mirrorless. A second battery is probably a good idea with this camera (although it was also a good idea with DSLRs). Technically, the camera handles high ISO very well, but eventually, if ISO is high enough, of course images won't be usable. The included 24-70 f/4.0 S lens is extremely sharp at every aperture. Of course, many photographers will find the f/2.8 version of that lens to be more suitable for their work. Many reviewers (and even Nikon themselves) have compared the Z6 to the D750, and the Z7 to the D850. I would argue that these comparisons are somewhat inaccurate - the only things that are really similar between the cameras are the resolutions. Essentially, the Z6 is really just a lower resolution Z7 (and fewer autofocus points). Everything else is basically identical (with the Z6 actually being higher performance on a few specs). For example, the Z6 and Z7 both have built-in focus stacking features. On the DSLRs, the D850 has that feature, not the D750. So in some ways, other than resolution, the Z6 is closer to the D850 than the D750. Overall, this is a great camera. Is it perfect? No. But it was the only camera that 'wowed' me enough to get me to switch to mirrorless. For that, in my opinion, Nikon has a winner.

|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought this to replace my Nikon D750 (which is a great camera) as a back up to my Nikon D850. So far, this camera has been awesome. It is lightweight but a heavy hitter. There is a small learning curve coming from full frame DSLR, but I have had mirrorless cameras in the past. The feel of the Z 6 is great. It is small but holding it is very comfortable. In comparing with the Sony mirrorless systems, the ergonomics of the Z series is way better, IMO. And, the lens.... I wasn't sure about the 24-70mm @f4. I usually like faster lenses. But, this lens is great. I would still like a bit faster and might upgrade at some point to the 2.8 version but I am in no rush. This lens is great.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5I sold off my D5000 and a couple lenses to move into the mirrorless full-frame rig and I couldn’t be happier! My only problem is trying to decide which new S line lens to get first. After reading a ton of reviews and watching many comparison videos I decided to get the Z6 instead of the Z7 because I intend to use this to shoot video as well as stills. It been a bit of a learning curve but I am enjoying every minute. Great job, Nikon!

Q: QuestionI read comparison and watched review videos, but coming from a canon user, anyone choose this over the canon R/RP and glad they did? Never used Nikon, so not sure if the user experience is not good coming from a canon user.
Asked by Canonlovr
- A:Answer I am not primarily a Canon user although I own and still use both a Canon point & shoot as well as a Canon 1n 35mm film camera. My experience tells me that you need to decide whether to go Canon or go Nikon or some other brand and then stick with it. The value of any camera system lies in the accumulation of lens, not bodies. The lens will always be good but the bodies change as improvements are made. I chose Nikon because I have a full assortment of lens dating back to 1967. They all still work on even the most modern Nikon body. That is the beauty of the Nikon system. Canon, on the other hand started over when the auto focus became the way to go and previous manual focus Canon lens would not work or even fit on Canon auto focus cameras. Today, it is a battle between Sony, Canon, Nikon and Panasonic/Olympus over the mirrorless camera systems. I chose Nikon because of their dedication to keeping backward compatibility with all previous lens. There will be minor improvements over time and one or the other brand will pull ahead momentarily, but in the long run, they are all about the same in performance. I did notice that the mirrorless Canon lens are different from the Canon auto focus lens so they may be making another big change that is not backward compatible.
