I was a little weary of a cardboard project, but this is well designed.
My 8 year old grandson and I have spent about about 8-10 hours over a couple days to build 3 of the items.
Fishing Pole
RC car
Piano (it really works and has moving keys!!)
He was able to do all the work.
Great, easy to follow and fun instructions are on the Switch itself.
He really had a lot of fun.
We also got the robot kit which is also a lot of fun!

Bought Labo for my 6 year old. Unfortunately, that is too young to handle the tedious folds and construction of the cardboards. However, I still think it is neat for little, future engineers. Step by step insructions are easy to follow.

Fold cardboard and watch the creations come to life! The Keyboard took my daughter and I more than an hour. Still more projects to do. and, she gets to color and decorate which is her favorite part.

I pre-order this package because of many things:
1. As a VR AR developer, I am frustrated with the poor controller design by HTC, Oculus, Daydream, and Gear VR. LABO is a breakthrough and an inspiration for specialty controllers.
2. Grow up with Anime and Japanese toys. Cardboard is a very important component in this experience. From the monthly children learning magazine's folding cardboard toys to the famous anime characters and robots made of cardboard, LABO is the next big thing to extend this cultural significance. However, I don't think Americans would appreciate cardboard as much as Japanese do other than packing materials.
3. Putting this together by yourself is long and painful. It is like experiencing one of those love of first sight romance with a quick burn out. The robot box is so many works. We only played for about 30 mins, I had not touched it for the past 3 weeks. I recommend starting with the other box set first.

I had mixed feelings about the labo concept and still do after my purchase. I justified purchasing as thinking I'm paying for the software along with the cardboard. The idea of building something out of thick paper and bringing it to life with your switch is certainly creative that could only be executed by Nintendo. I opened it up on a rainy Sunday and started the project with the kids. The instructions are super easy to follow but very time consuming. After awhile the kids got distracted and I ended up continuing on my own. After a couple of hours I felt I was done but the kids came back for encouragement and we finished it quickly. Once the project was completed it was cool to have it interact with the switch.
I guess if you enjoy Lego projects you might enjoy this. I'm not a big fan of putting things together so would pass on this purchase if I could go back.
Again I can totally see how someone else might enjoy this product and ultimately the finished projects were cool.
A:The Toy-Con 01 "MAKE" projects take anywhere to 90 minutes to 210 minutes to complete.
Fishing Rod 90-150 min
House 120-180 min
Motor Bike 90-150 min
Piano 150-210 min
Once you finish you can "PLAY" and "DISCOVER" which adds to play time of each project.
Cool product. Total worth it. Enjoy it, but don't expect this to last forever. Its just cardboard that makes learning fun.
A:They are two separate packs, one will be variety and the other the robot. They are two separate products, and there are plans for there to be more like this. I believe Nintendo did this to bring the price down to normal game levels to begin with, so that way if you wanted to play, you aren't paying a hundred plus for it. This also gives you the choice to pick and choose what you want instead of getting everything all at once.
A:The Variety Kit 01 is the product that has the Piano and the fishing rod and the interactive house. Number 04 is actually called the VR Kit 04, and that only contained one cardboard project, its a Virtual Reality piece of cardboard that you would hold up to your face. SO just look for the box that has a picture of the kid holding up the cardboard to their face and it says Virtual Reality.
A:I have the variety kit.The robot game is a kit on its own.Its alot of building.Mine came with a motorcycle, a piano, a fishing, and a little house game. Not sure which one has drumming.
