Bes over all Gaming /Media Device
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have to admit I did originally buy it to resell it but after seeing it only sell for 450 on ebay I decided to open it and play it. I absolutely love it. Here is what I like about it. - watching tv while playing mario on gamepad - watching youtube on tv while searching for other things to watch or surfing internet on gamepad - graphics equal to ps3 - people answer questions quickly on miiverse - 8gb is no big deal because you can add a external hard drive for very cheap. so I don't know why people are buying the 32gb - manditory update was faster than any update I ever did on my ps3 - netflix browser is better than ps3 - great price and alot of games.I bought my ps3 when it came out for 600 and it only had 10 games at the time. I can't recomend this enough and it will only get better when more apps are developed for it. I can't wait for the TVII

Nice little powerful machine
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAs a Nintendo fanboy, I've always favored the Big N over its competitors: SEGA, Sony and Microsoft, I had a GameCube, not an Xbox or a PS. I preferred the Wii over the obviously more powerful PS3 and X360. And now, I decided to get a WiiU instead of the PS4 or whatever comes next. I don't consider myself a casual player, nor a hardcore gamer. As an 'in beetween', I like to have fun while playing a game. I don't like to get frustrated in a certain game because its complexity, and its '12 finger +4 toes' control schemes. I really enjoyed simple games. Now, the WiiU seems to be keeping the same line of games, as well as showing a launch roster with some mature titles as well. I am currently enjoying Assassin's Creed III. Money wise, this console cost the same as a PS3, so, it comes out cheap considering it's a new system. However, if you think about the extra space you need for your new games, prepare to spend about $100 extra in an external HDD.

A Good New Console
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe Wii U is a good console that offers multiple functionality, it has a simple design, easy to setup, has neat games in its early run since it was released. I must admit that I bought the Wii U to play one game, and that is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the online functionality, and I did not regret doing it. I was really skeptical about buying the Wii U for just one game, as it would seem stupid in doing so. That's what I thought at first. I found that it has some neat features such as the Mii Maker virtual cartoony version of yourself, that relates to the MiiVerse, which is a social gaming network for Nintendo. It's easy to navigate, but is a little slow to start up for such a simple program. You can choose to favorite a community for a specific game and just just to it next to open up MiiVerse. The graphics are alright, kind of the same as PS3/360's. Game line up is good for now. A lot of games have been already out for the other consoles, but is a good thing for Wii U owners who doesn't have those consoles, because it made it accessible for Wii U owners. Hardware-wise, the Wii U is not really impressive, but delivers for what a gaming console should. No lags while playing a game as far as my experience goes. It is also backwards compatible with Wii games, although I don't have a Wii U, I would just like to point that out. I find this console to be more game centric which is a great thing. Although it has terrible memory space, you can just use your external memory devises, which should be available in almost every household at this current day and age. The gamepad is the thing that I really liked about the Wii U, because it allows me to play my games without having to connect to a TV and allows me to move around the house. My only gripe with it is the range you can stray from the console. Nintendo should have made it rangier and not easily blocked or disrupted by walls and electronic devices (conducted an experiment on this). Overall, if you have a PS3/360, and don't really have a reason to buy this console, like a game that is only available to it, then I wouldn't recommend buying it. And just save your money for the other next gen console. If you have a family with young children, then this is a good gaming console for them and for you as well. It has parental control features.

Improvement over original Wii
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI bought my original Wii to use with the Wii balance board and exercise programs. After my original Wii console was stolen, I decided to wait for the release of Wii U to replace my stolen console. With the Wii U, I can still use my original balance board and all my old software by selecting the Wii icon from the Wii U menu screen. My old software does not display anything on the game pad, only Wii U software will do that, and there isn't that many Wii U titles available in the stores in my area. I had to replace my original hand held controllers with newer MotionPlus controllers. The old controllers would not work with the newer version of Wii available on Wii U. I read that a Wii U version of Wii Fit balance board exercise software will be released in February 2013. I hope I will not need to purchase a new balance board for use with that software. The game pad makes it possible to watch TV and play a game at the same time, but this is not a feature I use that much. The game pad is much easier to use than the point and click screen pointing hands available with the old Wii controllers. My old Wii console had a primitive, almost useless internet browser, but the Wii U internet browser is greatly improved. The Wii U browser makes it possible to display streaming internet content on my large screen TV. I also activated third party software for downloading movies and TV shows to my Wii U. Because of these new TV viewing options available through the Wii U, I was able to reduce my monthly cable TV bill. With these savings, the Wii U paid for itself in less that four months.

Pretty good but can't say I'm amazed
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThe machine is a good upgrade to the initial Wii. They did a great job with the new screen/pad and smart to make the wii controllers compatible. Integrating the old Wii is a bit odd as you run a separate app/emulator for the games. Not a big issue but it's not native either and the freezes on the old wii games still happen on the new one. To update the machine when you first turn it on takes 30-45 minutes, a lot of time for an initial experience. Also to migrate your old wii data to the new one is a very long process as well.

Great console, but wait for the good games
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendTo be up front, the Wii U is not a console that everyone should run out and get now. Most likely at this year's E3 conference we will see the titles that will really sell the Wii U, because right now there really isn't much to play. As for the console itself, it's a great piece of hardware with a lot of fun and interesting new features that make it a great living room console. All the standard entertainment features are there (Netflix, Web Browser, Youtube App, Hulu, etc), but what's great about the Wii U is that it has great features for gamers. The new "Miiverse" offers gamers of all interests a new way to interact with communities that enjoy the same games they do. You can share screenshots, ask for game tips, or just have fun conversing about what gamers love: games. Another excellent feature is remote play, the ability to play many games right on the Wii U gamepad instead of on the TV. I've used this on countless occasions just to play video games in bed, sit outside and play, or to continue playing a game if someone else wants to watch TV. It's a very cool console with a lot of potential. This year we will see the announcement of games in the Mario Kart and Smash Brothers series as well as the release of a new 3D Mario adventure, a remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Pikmin 3, and Sonic Lost World, just to name a few. As I said, it isn't necessary to buy one just yet, but if you have any interest in Nintendo consoles, you'll want one before this Fall for sure.

Good, underrated console
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAs fans of the nintendo wii, my wife And I recently sprung for a Wii U. It shares a lot of similarities with the original Wii, but has plenty of new features (and upcoming new games) for it to be worthwhile for Nintendo fans. Of course it's not without drawbacks. Porting saved game files and downloading updates took a long time initially, and the system has to be rebooted to play old Wii games, but those are pretty minor quibles. Likewise its hardware isn't as great as the upcoming Sony and Microsoft consoles, but the draw here is really traditional Nintendo titles. Granted, there are't a lot of games put yet, but there are plenty more in the pipeline. While it certainly is't the groundbreaker that the original Wii or NES were, the U is a capable console that promises lots of quality nintendo play in the years to come. I'm glad we bought it.

A great system for old fashioned game lovers
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendWith the WiiU, what you're gonna get is all the great Nintendo games, Mario 3D, Luigi, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and hopefully some new IPs, all with nice current gen PS3 level graphics. The WiiU will not compete graphically with the PS4 or Xbox One. But that is ok, if all you want is awesome quality games and an affordable console. The tablet controller is unique in that most games you can play entirely on the tablet without ever having to turn the TV on. Seeing New Super Mario Bros U on that tablet controller makes me feel like I'm playing a large portable instead of a game console. And that is kind of a unique experience. Overall I rate WiiU a 9 for fun and 6 for tech (since it's gonna lag behind most of the next gen games on other platforms).
