      90’s nostalgia in spades

I was old enough to have the Orginal SNES when it first came out, and I have to say, it defined my childhood and early teens. So when I heard they were re-releasing the system I kinda went ‘meh’ because I had played most of the games as a pimply faced frustrated teen who was high and might on the ‘been there done that’ train. And I have a Raspberry Pi with every classic console game in existence, so no need for dis ting. On a whim I picked one up and my excitement level went from ‘yeah the sunset is cool but it happens everyday’ to ‘Oh there are still strawberry Starburst in the candy bowl’. Got home, plugged it in, and two very vivid childhood memories flooded back and smacked me in my smug face. First, Street Fighter is still hard as heck to play on SNES with shoulder buttons. Two, lying on the floor within a few feet of my tv because wired controllers. All that aside, once I played Kirby, Super MARIO World, and Secret of Mana with the SNES controller you immediately see why this was one of the best gaming systems ever. Being in second place in MARIO kart and using the shoulder button to drift around the first place person, the circle layout in Secret of Mana and how intuitive the SNES controller is to the experience. If for nothing but one of these just to see how perfectly mapped and preside a SNES controller made by Nintendo is. Emulating these games and using an Xbox or PS4 controller on a PC just does not feel as sharp, easy, and fluid. I know these are impossible to find, but no tendo dis say they would release more next summer. P.S. went back to Best Buy the next day to get the insignia extension cables. I’m not as young as I used to be so laying on the hard wood floors staring up at a huge screen doesn’t do it for me or my spine.

Well worth the money spent on it, as you're getting 20 super classic games and 1 unreleased game. I have included how long it takes to beat each game below to emphasize how much gameplay you're getting out of this $80 machine. GAME TITLE // (Quickplay Hours) to (Completionist Hours) Contra 3: The Alien Wars // 1.5 to 2 Donkey Kong Country // 4 to 6.5 EarthBound // 28 to 34.5 Final Fantasy 3 // 29.5 to 52 F-Zero // 3.5 to 4 Kirby Super Star // 3.5 to 9 Kirby's Dream Course // 2.5 to 7.5 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past // 15.5 to 18 Mega Man X // 3.5 to 4 Secret of Mana // 22 to 37.5 Star Fox // 1.5 to 3 Star Fox 2 // 1 to 2 Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting // 2 to 13 Super Castlevania 4 // 4 to 6 Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts // 6 to 6.5 Super Mario Kart // 2.5 to 20.5 Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars // 16 to 22.5 Super Mario World // 5.5 to 10.5 Super Metroid // 7.5 to 8.5 Super Punch-Out!! // 3 to 17 Yoshi's Island // 8 to 16 So if you were to play every single game included on this system, it would take you between 170+ hours (if you are a minimalist trying to do the bare essential story mode) to 300+ hours (if you are a completionist). I'll let you decide if that's worth it for you.

The SNES classic is a must for fan of the older game system. Good for anyone looking for a blast from the past. Or new comers wishing to test old games out. The system is a nice small size, could fit in a teenagers hand. But on it comes with 20 preinstalled games and they are all accessed through a menu. No need for cartridges. Because the system doesn't have a slot anyways. But the games on the system are classics such as Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, and Super Mario Kart. All on 1 system. Plus you're given 2 controllers. So you can enjoy these games with friends. Also if you're familiar with emulation. You're given the option to save at the exact point you left off and you're able to continue as if you never left. So the time for playing till the save point is no more. For the price it may seem a bit much. But if you price the actual SNES, plus the price for the games separately. It ends up being more. Also, you'll have to see if the 20 year old console even works. Making this a convenience, and it has HDMI so it can play very well on modern TVs. So that's also another plus because the original SNES comes with the yellow and white plugs. Making the picture look very washed out on modern TVs. So convenience sake. I'd say pick this up rather than hunt an peck all over the Internet for these games.

Got this on launch day thanks to the awesome setup that Best Buy used here in Augusta. I appreciate the effort you guys put in to make sure everyone had a chance to get this. Now on to the review itself. System is tiny compared to an original and comes with 21 of some the best games to ever be released on the SNES. There really is not a horrible game in my opinion on this special console. The controllers are your standard classic Super Nintendo controllers and feel comfortable and easy to use just like the originals. I suppose if you have really big hands you might find them a problem but for most people they should be just right. The console itself is easy to hookup and everything you need to hook it up to your TV is in the box. The menus are really easy to navigate and you can find instructions on how to play the games on the main screen or in most cases from the games themselves. Only thing you don't have access to right away is Star Fox 2. It makes you beat the first stage of Star Fox 1 before it will unlock. All game are in 4:3 aspect ratio, but you have the ability to pick what boarders you want around the games. They have a lot of different styles to choose from. Only annoying thing is that you have to use the reset button on the console itself to exit a game, but over all this does not take away any enjoyment of the games themselves. I would highly recommend this console to anyone who loved the classic games. I would not buy this from scalpers at the moment as Nintendo does stated that there will be more out there. Your best bet is to check the brick and mortar stores for copies as scalpers will probably be hitting online sites with bots.

I love Earthbound, Contra III, Super Mario World 1 and 2, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III, Donkey Kong Country. What they are missing are Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Super Mario All Stars, come on Nintendo, these Mario classic would complete Mario collection... I would not mind Frogger, Ms. PAC-man, donkey Kong country 2 and 3 which they released all donkey Kong country games. Too many Kirby games, and one game that is my biggest gripe... Fire Fox 2 ... You have to play 1 so far to even play 2 and the console says 21 games... right now it is 20 games, not 21... very dumb Nintendo. What about clue, monopoly wheel of fortune, Mario paint ... because this console has some of my favorites, I will recommend it to a friend, just no high rating. I still have all of my letters to Nintendo of America, Redmond Washington, and I bugged them for months about tons of ideas for super Mario rpg, and using squaresoft and many other ideas.... they used most of my ideas and asked at some point if I would join them in Redmond Washington. I said no, I was dating at the time, she would not move there, and she was more important than being a creative game publisher.

The SNES Classic Edition is full of 1990's retro goodness all bundled up into one small super powered package. Features of the console include; Four "Suspend Point" save slots per game that allow you to save your game anywhere, anytime during your adventure. Rewind allows you to go back 10-50 seconds in gameplay (depending on the game). So if you make a mistake, no problem go back a few seconds and try again. Screen filters CRT mode makes the picture look like those fuzzy images we grew up with as children, playing on our parents console TV which was more like furniture in those days. 4:3 maintains the correct aspect ratio Pixel perfect makes each pixel perfectly square as to produce a shaper image. The hardware is pretty straight forward plug-n-play. HDMI cable (included) for video and mini USB cable and wall adapter for power. The controllers (two are included) feel solid and fimiliar. Featuring the Wii/Wii U connector just like the NES CE controllers they can be used with those respective system's Wiimotes for Virtual Console play. Nintendo also addressed the biggest drawback of the NES CE controller cable length of 2.5 feet increaseing the SNES CE's to 5 feet.

I Have Luv Hate Relationship with Nintendo

I'm pretty sure by now you've seen reviews and unboxing for Super NES Classic. Believe me, Nintendo did a superb job of recreating the console and packing 20 games and one game that you have to unlock (simple to achieve). I pretty much play Super NES Classic every time I decide to play video games. Are there a couple of games that I would had like Nintendo swapped for? Yes, but that's my opinion. The console itself feels awesome in quality and its miniature size. The controllers are very responsive and "clicky" I have the original Super Nintendo, and I totally forgotten the controllers click when they're brand new. The length of the cable doesn't bother me. Is it as long as the original controller no, but you can easily buy cable extension. One thing comes to mind, you probably can use two extensions and the controller for a long run...probably. The hate what I have for Nintendo is two reasons: 1) How epic it would had been if Nintendo had a online store dedicated for Classic consoles, mind you guys, Nintendo still own the rights to every game they released. 2) Nintendo COO Reggie said, "No need to buy from scalpers. We'll release enough consoles where you can go to either store and pick one up" So umm...where are they? I had to stand in cold rain from 5:30 am to 10:30 am....sigh sucked but worth it!!! I hope you guys grab Super NES Classic

I wasn't planning on buying one to be honest - not that I wouldn't have down the line, but it wasnt on my agenda the evening I purchased it. I happened to walk into my local best buy and there were several sitting on the table greeting me at the door, and I immediately picked one up knowing how hard they are to come buy. After laying out $80 (plus tax of course) I rushed home and set it up. Installation was a breeze and made me realize how complicated new consoles are compared to their older counterparts. Literally just plug-and-play! No massive day 1 updates to download, just put a few quick settings in and BOOM! Playing Super Mario World on my new 4K TV! There isn't much to say - if you loved these games as a kid, this is a no brainier. The only thing I can find a complaint about is the limited number or titles preinstalled. Nintendo could of definitely squeezed more into this lil box, especially considering the NES classic was $20 cheaper and came with more games. Besides that, and perhaps the controllers being a tad too short, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. Young or old, this is sure to keep you, your kids, grandkids or niece/nephew's entertained for quite some time. Totally worth the asking price if you can find one! Let's go N64 classic!!!
