Great system for a newbie
|Posted .I bought the Wii u so I can play wii sport online with my grandson in Alaska. It is a lot of fun and we use the game pad to chat and play other games with each other.
I would recommend this to a friendRating 5 out of 5 stars with 1 review
Great system at an awesome price
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have a PS3 and never owned a Wii, so buying this and playing old Wii games and the new games that are out right now is awesome. I'll probably get a PS4 (or steambox) too, but not for a year or so and not until the price drops. Also, Nintendo has the best upcoming 2014 games lineup in my opinion. I'm super excited for Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Zelda, and Donkey Kong. The Mario games that are out now are amazing. Kinda wish it could play Blu-rays, but I have a PS3 for that.

Love the new Wii U. Great upgrade from the Wii
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI love the new Wii U. Great upgrade from the original Wii, plus it plays all of the Wii games that I have. The GamePad is very nice for most Wii U games (not usable on the original Wii games), and adds much to the playability of the games. I much prefer the games available on the Wii/Wii U consoles since my grand kids really love them! Lots of fun, and the additional features added over the original Wii make it a great all-around console system. I really like the ability to add an external hard drive for storing game-saves, downloaded games, etc.

Classic Nintendo quality.
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendIf you're a die-hard Nintendo gamer who never gets tired of Mario and other classic Nintendo mainstays, you owe it to yourself to go get a Wii U. Home to upcoming classics like Mario Kart 8, Pikmin 3, Super Smash Bros and later games in franchise classics like Zelda and Metroid, the Wii U is still in its infancy but worth a look. This set comes with Super Mario Bros U, Super Luigi Bros U (an expansion pak) and the necessary hardware for your game console, including a charging stand for the gamepad (which, with the screen, is good for about 4-5 hours of steady use between charges) as well as the console and necessary cords. You will want to purchase a wiimote with Wiimotion plus (one is not included) unless you plan to use your old Wii equipment, which is easily synced. The biggest thing you need to prepare for is the setup time. The first day you get it home and plug it in, you'll want to let the gamepad charge overnight. This goes for any controllers you purchase as well, like the classic Wii U controller (not included) which needs a USB port to charge (again, overnight is probably best.) You will also need to run any system updates and software updates, which takes about 1-2 hours once everything is charged up. So be prepared for a process in getting the network to work, the TV control setting to work, and the software updates. Be SURE TO LET THEM COMPLETE or else it may lock out the console and turn it into a useless lump - I read that on other reviews and did not have that problem, but it's worth mentioning. Once all the setups are done, you are in for a treat. The graphics on this console are the best that Nintendo has ever produced on any system. I purchased Pikmin 3 along with this game and the detail is spot on to die for impeccable. You will be impressed.

Gets To The Heart of You
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased a "next gen" system earlier in the year from a major software/operating system company and was really left wanting. There are games available, and they can be a ton of fun. I'm just left asking "where was the heart and soul when they planned this roll out?" While I wait for the big name games to come out, I found myself envying those who took the risk in buying the Wii U. I jumped in head first, bought refurbished controllers and discounted games at other retailers and I haven't looked back. This system captures what I love about video games in so many ways. Sitting around the Nintendo 64 as a kid, playing Mario 64, Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda, and Mario Party games. Getting the next hidden area in Donkey Kong Country. The newly released versions have not lost an ounce of heart. In fact it reminded me again why I played these games as a kid. Bravo Nintendo. Keep up the high standards these games are held to. I eagerly await Paper Mario U and Mario Kart 8. I'm a FPS fan as well, so I will stick to the other system for those games. Its also a great Blu-Ray player. I just cannot believe I missed out on the Wii. Thankfully I can buy those old games and play them here. Something other system manufacturers haven't been able to provide. Nintendo even is making efforts to re-release games in HD. I challenge anyone who loved Ocarina of Time not to get chills while watching the opening sequence in Windwaker. Last point: I get to play games while my lady watches whatever she wants on television. The games save often and I can shut it off and put it down within 30 seconds. The screen in the controller is extremely useful for grown-up kids such as myself who cannot always monopolize the television in the living room. I definite recommendation from me.

Surprising
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI was a huge hater on the Wii U, even though I had never played it. It didn't have software, it was incredibly underpowered compared to other next gen consoles, and I thought the game pad was a horrible gimmick. However, my brother-in-law got one in December, and my wife and I played Mario 3D World with him. It singlehandedly changed my mind regarding the system. Here's what really changed my mind: - The game pad is awesome. I play off TV all the time, when my wife wants to use the TV. Also, some games are already incorporating fun new ways to use the game pad that enhance playing (and it's only going to get better) - The graphics are surprising. When you look at the specs on paper, the system sounds terrible. Then you play a game like Pikmin 3 or Super Mario 3D World and are blown away. Will it be "better" graphically than PS4 or Xbone? No. But I'm looking for SOLID graphics with AMAZING games - Miiverse is surprisingly addicting. The environment is very positive (good for family settings) as well. You can get lost just looking around, and that's a good thing - It's WAY cheaper than the alternative consoles - Finally, and most importantly, there are a good amount of great games out NOW that I want to play, AND there are a TON of games coming out this year Nintendo is getting a bad rep, especially from recent events regarding their sales figures. I think 2014 will help Nintendo sales, because of their stellar games line up, and I know I am going to promoting them big time; this coming from an ex-hater. I highly recommend this system for both family gaming and individual gaming

Nintendo is Back, Baby!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI never got the Wii for various reasons: no HD, weird control scheme, bad internet function, etc. The Wii U seemingly solves all of these problems. For one, it's HD, and it's beautiful. Playing games like Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Brothers U, and Pikmin 3 are just flat out gorgeous and directly compete with the main titles of PS3 and Xbox 360. Actually, if you consider how popular it is with my friends, it trumps the PS4 and Xbox One as well. Even at work, where we have an Xbox One in the breakroom, everyone plays the Wii U. Mario Kart 8 is big, but I love it for many other reasons. The controller selection went up, with the Gamepad revolutionizing console gaming and the Wii U Pro Controller allowing hardcore Xbox/PS types use something more familiar, or using the Wii Remote in a number of fashions. On top of all this, the menu is fast to response, the system boots quickly, and the internet features are great. Sure, they're a bit slow to respond, but that's fairly normal in consoles in my experience. Unfortunately, it does freeze or crash from time to time, but this is never during games and usually from Amazon Prime or Netflix. On that note, Netflix/Hulu Plus/Amazon Prime are all available on the system and the Wii U is now my go-to source for these apps. Using the Gamepad, you can view actors and show info on the gamepad while watching the show. Also, the gamepad can double as a handheld gaming device, where you switch the console game to the screen and play it like a gameboy. This isn't available for all games, but for all Wii U games I've played it is. Some Wii U games use it as a gameplay enhancer, such as Zombie U for your inventory and such. Also, it has all kinds of ports, from headphones to Infrared remote so you can use it as a TV remote. To play the Wii U, I only need the gamepad. It lets me turn on the tv, change the input, adjust volume, and all of the Wii U functions from powering it up or down to typing with a stylus. It comes with 32GB hard drive, which isn't much if you start downloading games (yes, you can download retails games such as Pikmin 3) at 5 GB each, it runs out. However, you can use an external hard drive with USB to store additional items, so that's a huge plus. In summary, I love the Wii U. I also own an Xbox 360 and PS3, and this system is all we play now. I am super excited for all the big titles coming out, from Zelda to Super Smash Brothers to Metroid to Sonic. It's a great system; a huge upgrade from the Wii and a wonderful alternative to the PS3/Xbox 360 and arguably also the PS4 and Xbox One.

|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendBought for a Christmas gift, but feel he will be very pleased. The bundle is the reason I purchased the item. The games in the bundle were also on his wish list.
