    Different but beautiful

The biggest mistake someone could make with this album is judging it after the first few tracks. The truly excellent songs are at the middle or end of the album. (This isn't to say that the first few tracks aren't good, but I think the real quality comes later.) Much of the album has a very different sound with echos of previous albums, though I would expect nothing less from a band as seasoned as U2. In a world of overproduced music, this album is underproduced, if anything, giving it a unique and raw sound that I loved. I wasn't thrilled with some instrumental/vocal choices on a few tracks, but they're easily forgiven. The title track is excellent, with a really floaty feel and an unexpected chorus. The real gem on this album, though, is "White as Snow", which is simply breathtaking, using "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" as the theme of the melody underneath haunting lyrics. Also check out "I'll Go Crazy", "Fez", and "Breathe".

One of U2's most Ambitious albums to date

From the sonic revolution that is NLOTH the song, to the grand, stadium sounding Magnificent, to the gospel EPICNESS of Moment Of Surrender, to the spice of the most graceful Unknown Caller, to the beautiful ballad IGCIIDGCT, to the punk rocker Get On Your Boots, to the Led Zeppelin rocker Stand Up Comedy, to the pure experimental yet powerful FEZ- Being Born, to the steadiness and soothing White As Snow, to the Classic U2 stadium anthem Breathe, to the somber yet incredibly effective Cedars Of Lebanon this album is U2's MOST COMPLETE album since The Joshua Tree. I believe this to be at least their 2nd best album behind TJT. Its truly a beautiful craft from a band that signals to us with this record that after 12 Studio Albums they are FAR from done releasing their best music. We've waited almost 5 years for this album and believe me, it would have been worth waiting 20 years for this Incredibly epic album. Cheers mates.

Not the Joshua Tree, but one of their best

I have read some reviews saying that U2 is washed up and their songwriting is over, etc... With this album, they prove once again: the older they become, the better. This album included a little bit of everything, from typical U2 rock/pop sound ("Stand-up comedy", "Breathe", even "Unknown Caller") to new rock ("Get On Your Boots", "Moment Of Surrender"). I was particularly impressed with "Magnificent"; it has a new sound and style that I havent heard from U2 before, which is what makes these guys so great. Unlike a few rock bands from the 80's that release music today who apparently still think its 1984 or whatever (except Bon Jovi), U2 adjusts greatly to today's sound, and yet still sound like a rock band from the 80's. I mean, would you ever hear Def Lepard or even Van Halen on 'Radio Disney'? Didn't think so.

Not One Of Their Better Albums

After reading a couple of reviews comparing this to "Achtung Baby", I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy. After listening to it several times, I think those reviewers were completely off the mark! There's nothing on this album that's compares to "One," "Mysterious Ways," or "Until The End Of The World." I enjoyed "Magnificent" and "Get On Your Boots", but the rest of the album is downright boring. The Edges playing is great as usual, but Bono's lyrics are long, rambling, and unmemorable for the most part. It's been 8 years since these guys put out a good record. If the last 2 are any indication, maybe it's time to call it a day, because it certainly seems like the songwriting well has run dry!

Wow they need to hang it up

Well. first of all u2 is probably the worst band ever the grace this earth. I would much rather listen to avril lavigne than U2. How can you take a band seriously that the lead singer is Bono and the lead guitarist is The Edge... Are they too cool to have normal names.... I think not. I bought this album hoping maybe that they have progressed over the years. Boy was i wrong. I sure do wish i could return this piece of garbage. I think next time i will just buy the new jonas brothers cd. I think i would be happier listening to them then these washed up rockers.

    Should have been better

I’m a big fan of U2 but this album was slow and boring. I think it needed a better mix of tempos. I hope this is not a sign of U2 making songs that are too deep and loose any of the catchy notes I am use too as Eddie Vedder did with pearl jam. I thinks some older bands that had fame forget what made them popular and start singing songs that are too personal to them and fans loose their ability to relate to the song

    U2 does it again!!!

Without a doubt, this is a must buy even if you are not a U2 fan. When I first listend to it I was like "What?" But after my second or third play through, I could not stop listening to it! Each song was beautifully written. Do yourself a favor and just pick it up.
