I Found Christmas!!!
Posted .It’s been a crazy year. I don’t really need to get into how odd 2020 has been overall, but needless to say like a lot of folks, my wife, kids and myself have spend a lot of excess time stuck at home through current events, burning through all manner of entertainment in an effort to keep days interesting, and ourselves entertained. Board games, video games, movies and music….we’ve pretty much done all we can do within the four walls, and we’ve done it ad nauseum over the past eight months or so. We are very fortunate, I feel like we have a lot and my kids don’t really want for much, so it has been a bit of a challenge finding something to shake it all up. This year (more than others) also has me struggling to think of how we might make this Christmas different and eventful when we have exhausted so many different means of staying active and excited. I think found it. I have never owned a VR headset. I am a bit of a technology wonk (I build my own computers, love gaming and gadgets), but VR is something I’ve watched from a distance, largely due to the entry cost and my reticence to buying into the hype and just actually trying one out/on. The minute I put the Quest 2 on, I realized how much I had been missing out on. If you are looking for your entry point to VR from a cost and fun perspective, this is absolutely it. It is a very well-built unit- overall packaging and form factor are pretty sturdy and ergonomic (from the perspective of a first time user). Headset overall is solid and definitely has some weight to it, but with some minor adjustments it fits well, and relatively comfortably. I think the strap could stand some minor improvement for the sake of comfort, as there is a bit of weight to it, and I intend to order the Elite Strap with battery and carrying case as soon as it’s available. Many reviews of that strap seem to indicate that the added rear support architecture will increase comfort level dramatically, and the battery component of it should double the advertised play time of two plus hours to something more along the line of 4-6 hours total. The hand controllers feel remarkably comfortable, although they do impress me as heavy enough that I feel like a long gaming session will have me noticing them. The overall experience is just….wow. To reiterate, I’m a first-timer in terms of VR, and I went into this with a generous mix of ‘not-really-sure’ and ‘let’s-give-it-a-shot’. To say I was not disappointed is about the understatement of the year. Many of the reviews speak much better than I could to the tech aspects of it and specifications on lenses, hardware and processer speed which I won’t regurgitate, but the sight and sound are just outstanding and fully immersive. The standard lens orientation (you can adjust it in three ways, I didn't have to) gave me a spectacular HD panorama and the sound was rich and required no earpieces, although the headset is equipped to connect some if needed. There were no noticeable light-leaks, and I really felt like I strapping in was the equivalent of stepping into another world, just one I could hear my dog barking in. I literally just wandered through the tutorial for a half hour in wonder, catching myself giggling like I was a kid at silly stuff like throwing paper airplanes or shooting shapes on a range- I was head-butting ping pong balls and dancing with some weird looking avatar like an absolute clown in the middle of the day- it was glorious. While I’ve dipped my toe in the game pool with a few smaller and straight-forward titles like Beat Saber and Tetris Effect, those aren’t games that will beg super long sessions of me (okay, so maybe Tetris can suck you in a bit…), I feel like once I settle in with something like Half-Life: Alyx I will really start to notice the weight on the controllers- a mild criticism at best. As I noted, I build my own computers and really enjoy PC gaming, I was super excited about having a brand new wireless VR experience as well as the opportunity to tap into the Steam VR library, which I understand you can do with. I have ordered the Oculus link cable and hope that it arrives shortly, but either that or Virtual Desktop will enable you to connect one to the other. The Virtual Desktop wireless connection could alter the performance dependent on your in-home wireless setup and support, but the link cable (uses USB3.1 gen 2) will leverage the speed of the computer and really push performance. Best of both (wired/wireless) worlds. The immensely disappointing part about getting the Oculus Quest 2 is that after a quick peek under the hood and a somewhat limited amount of tinkering around, it is back in the box and I have to keep it hidden until Christmas. For a family that has spent entirely too much time together at home looking for something fresh and new, I think I stumbled onto some magic here that will be a huge hit Christmas morning...provided I can wait that long to surprise them. Throwing $300 bucks at something isn’t short money for me (or many folks)- but as dim as the year has been so far, the Quest 2 will be Christmas for us, a fresh new way to have some fun together as a family and just get away from it all for a little bit. I can’t wait for them to open it, explore all of the titles and features that I haven’t even scratched the surface on yet. I’m just counting the days until we get to the holidays- but I definitely found Christmas.

Its new, its cheap for VR & definitely worth it

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Ima give ya'll my personal user review as this is being my first VR headset I've gotten. What really compelled me to get it was the price & I wasn't sure how good it'll turn out. I bought one & it came w one dead pixel, so I exchanged it & this one I have now works flawless. Having it for just a few days & am already loving the immersiveness I get off playing thew games that I have. The Oculus game library is limited but there's something for everyone, most games are sub $25, I'd recommend looking at ratings & user reviews before buying any. The 64g version may seem small but most games aren't more than just a few gigs each, maybe less. Important note: **If you get the Virtual Desktop app on it, you'll have access to the Steam library!** It takes a few more steps to actually set it up but its worth it. The charging cable is short. You'll get roughly 2.5hrs play time out of it. I recommend buying the 10ft cable from the Oculus store if you dont want to keep charging it back to back thats another $80 you may dish out if you really need it. The controllers are very precise, nothing like the Valve Index but it does the job well & the headset is comfortable (imo) though w only 3 dials to adjust the display on the eyes you'll be limited & are forced to use whats closest to what you feel is right. The resolution is 1832 x 1920 per eye LCD panels with little to no screen-door affect. Refresh rate of 72hz w/ support of 90hz coming soon?? 6gigs of ram & the new Snapdragon XR2 chip inside. In summary, VR has been around for years.. Though until now all were about $400 & more, with limited games & use. Now a days things are different. This feels polished, w many VR titles & more to come in the near future. This is a great stand-alone VR headset. If you ever wanted to try VR, there's no better time to start than now. Hope this helps, happy shopping.

I Love It!
Posted .I have been wanting to get a good VR headset for the last few years, but between the cost and all the cabling getting in the way, I have held off. However, when the Quest 2 came out, that took care of most of my concerns. The Quest 2 has built in speakers and connects to your wireless network. You need to download the Oculus app on your mobile device and connect it to the headset (I believe you can also connect to your computer, but I didn't try that). I've been using it for a few days now and have really enjoyed it. It only took a few minutes to get it out of the box and get it setup. Here is where I will list the first challenge for some. A Facebook account is required to register it and get it started. If you don't have one, you will have to create one. I already have one, so no big deal. Once you have it all setup, the interface is somewhat self explanatory. It isn't perfect, but if you hover over the an icon, it usually tells you some more information. You use the controllers to point to something and use the trigger to select it. Either way, you get used to it pretty quickly. Now to the fun stuff...the games and content! I got Beat Saber, which is one of the most popular VR games out there. You use light sabers to cut through blocks that are flying at you. My wife and I have been playing it...granted at "old people" speeds, but it is still a lot of fun. I would highly recommend Beat Saber if you buy the Quest 2. I also spent time watching some YouTube VR videos and downloading a few different game demos. So far I loved Creed, a boxing game. It is a good work out and I end up sweating a lot during each match. One thing I like about Oculus' purchase policy is that if you purchase a game and don't like it, you can get your money back as long as you have played it less than 2 hours. I think you have two weeks to get a refund, but double check the policy if you plan to use it. The biggest drawback in my mind is the battery life. From a full charge, don't expect to get more than two hours of game time. That might sound like a lot for some, but the time goes really fast when you are playing games, especially if you have multiple people there taking turns. You can play games sitting, standing or moving around (each game might have different requirements). If standing or walking around you create a virtual boundary to stay within. If you start getting near a boundary, grid lines show up to give you warning that you are getting close. The larger your area, the better you will be able to move around during the game. Overall, this is probably one of my favorite tech gadgets I got this year and would recommend it to anyone that likes gaming. There are drawbacks, like battery life, but in my mind, it is worth it for the fun it provides.

First Time in VR!

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Wow!!! This is so EPIC!! This is my first time ever even trying out VR! Felt so real! I won't lie, first time using it I got scared because you truly are in another dimension once you step inside with this Quest 2 VR Headset. After a chatge these will last you about 3-4 hours (not bad at all since I don't game that long.) And it's just easy of use. The only issue or complaint i have is you "NEED" an active Facebook account in order to use these.. you "CANNOT" use these without a Facebook account. So I had to create a Facebook just to use these. But other than thag it's really really really Fun! Great for Exercise as well..

Only downfall is you have to use Facebook.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5The Oculus Quest 2 is the best standalone headset out right now for people wanting to join the VR Ecosystem for the first time. This new Oculus Quest 2 has improved specs over the original Oculus Quest. With a bonus, if you have a strong Pc you could connect it to the VR Headset and play PC VR with the Oculus Link Cable.

Some things actually better on Original. Have both
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I also have the Quest 1. I decided to keep both. Horror games look better on the original due to its OLED display, perfect blacks. Also the controllers on the original are so much more comfortable to use, there is a size and shape difference. The Quest 2 headset is more comfortable, smaller and better balanced. I like my original for certain content and the Quest 2 for other content. I’m in the process of updating my content dependent to which Quest I want it on. As far as how they perform, Quest 2 loads content in half the time, less screen door effect but not much, not worth jumping from 1 to 2. Haven’t been able to take advantage of 90hz just yet. If you have the original, no need to do what I did, I mainly bought the Quest 2 because my girlfriend was hogging up a lot of time on it, so I got another one.

Quest2 even better than the Quest1
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I got the Quest1 and thought it was nearly perfect, but the Quest2 does it even better!!.. and for cheaper! For $100 less the Quest2 has better resolution, refresh rates and is lighter, all with a faster cpu, also the controllers don’t eat batteries like they were a snack... you really can’t go wrong with the Quest2! It’s a powerful mobile all in one VR unit that can also be plugged into a gaming pc via a Link Cable and play PC/VR games as well...

Q: QuestionMy son is asking for one of these for Christmas, Do you buy the games for it from an app or what? Can someone give me a general run down on how all of this will work?
Asked by nottechsavvymom.
- A:Answer Yes you download an app called oculus via android/ios phone or tablet. Then you can make purchases either on the device or the phone or tablet. If you have a vr capable pc you can expand your options by running pcvr games via virtual desktop or link cable that is sold separately. While this is a great device please be aware that a facebook account is required to use it.

Q: Questionhow many games does the 64 gig hold
Asked by ManBerarPig.
- A:Answer Quest 1 Games range from 100MB to 2 GB, generally on the lower end of less than 1GB, but those games will grow as devs update them for the Quest 2 and games made with the Quest 2 in mind will be larger still. The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners reported that the Quest 2 version of their game will be around 12GB once finished.

Q: QuestionWhat if you wear glasses will it fit over them?
Asked by Jamela.
- A:Answer They headset comes with specific pieces to use if you wanted to wear glasses under it. You can also get prescription lens inserts from vr-lens-lab.com for about 50$ give of take. If you will be the only one using the headset primarily i would recommend getting the lens inserts, if other people are using it often just use the spacers that come with it.

Q: QuestionShould I chose the Oculus quest 2 with the link over the rift s ?From what I herd, it still has latency when using it with the link cable.
Asked by Blair.
- A:Answer I would not get a Rift S over the Quest 2. I say this as a current Quest owner using the Link cable to play PCVR games on Steam and through the Oculus store already. For all the reasons the other poster mentioned I definitely would not invest in the older technology with less flexibility. I will say, however, that getting the right Link cable (I ended up going with the Oculus cable after trying a few others) and, of course the right gaming PC, is important to make your experience as hassle free as possible.

Q: QuestionIs this wireless?
Asked by Dnew.
- A:Answer Yes, it uses Wifi to download games on it and can be used entirely wirelessly. Can also be connected to a PC running VR games using a Link cable or Virtual Desktop.

Q: QuestionCan you expand the memory with a memory card?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer No memory expansion is possible. Most games seem to be a few gigabytes so how many apps and games you can download will vary.
