Alexisonfire has taken themselves out of the screamo genre and placed themselves securely in the hardcore, hard rock, genre with their release of their senior offering, "Old Crows/ Young Cardinals." Petit has moved from an aggressive scream to a full bodied belt for his vocals. Having a deeper and fuller vocal allows him to do more with his voice, and with Dallas Green mastery of his lighter more graceful vocals (even becoming deeper and scratchier at times), really sets Alexisonfire ahead in genre. Like usual Alexisonfire shreds out some of the catchiest riffs in hardcore and beyond, creating hooks that catch you from the very beginning of the album all the way to the end. Instrumentally they set "Old Crows..." apart from previous albums by toning up the bass, creating some very driving and invigorating bass riffs, that drive the album into my top 10. The new direction is bound to significantly increase their following without loosing too many of their devoted fans! The best I have heard from Alexisonfire, and the best hardcore/hard rock I have heard in years.
