Synopsis

One Hour Photo
Funnyman Robin Williams steps out of character in this tense, low-key thriller that marked the feature-film directorial debut of music video veteran Mark Romanek. Semour "Sy" Parrish (Williams) runs the photo processing department at a large discount store; Sy is dedicated to his job, and takes great pride in his work. Sy's favorite customers are Nina and Will Yorkin (Connie Nielsen and Michael Vartan), an attractive and cheerful young couple with a nine-year-old boy, Jake (Dylan Smith). Sy dotes on the Yorkins and their son whenever they drop off film to be processed -- something they've been doing quite often ever since Jake was born -- and Nina and Will are indulgent of Sy's attentions, regarding his as a harmless eccentric. What the Yorkins don't know is Sy is a desperately lonely man with no real life of his own, and he's been obsessively making copies of their photos, for years, imagining himself to be "Uncle Sy," a member of the family. Sy's tenuous hold on reality begins to collapse when he develops a roll of film brought in by a new customer that suggests Will has been unfaithful to Nina; the notion that his ideal family may be falling apart is troubling enough for Sy, and when he loses his job, Sy reaches the breaking point. One Hour Photo was screened in competition at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

What a startling film, you know? Like you, I've strayed away from watching One Hour Photo for years based on it's subject matter. But let me say, I did the unthinkable and gave it a watch, and boy was it worth it. Robin Williams knocks it out of the ball as Sy the photo guy who has dedicated his life to giving families the best customer service and photo quality at his job every day. His boss is a jerk, the same jerk from Office Space, and things start to spiral out of control. I coaxed my best friend Leet Larry into watching it, telling him there would be babes in the film. Well, not really. Larry thought Sy was a completely normal guy and I was like, "Larry, are you watching the same movie I am!?" But it's true, Robin Williams is able to make a mentally plagued character have human qualities that still make you root for him as the protagonist, against all odds. The cinematography and style of the movie echo Stanley Kubrick for some reason, and there's one scene that will scare your pants off. Larry immediately had to take a bathroom break when we watched it, and I did too. One Hour Photo is a must watch, especially on blu ray. Let me say, I would search it out and purchase it again if I lost it, you know?

Robin Williams delivers one of his best performances as the photo guy trapped in his lonely fantasies in this effective thriller. Through the developing of one family's photos over the years, the photo guy comes to believe he is part of their family. His picture perfect fantasy collides with a dose of reality creating the psychology of this thriller. Well made movie. Blu-ray disc, packaging, picture and sound quality good. Presented in 185:1 aspect ratio.

This was a good movie, my wife and I liked it. Robin Williams really makes the movie. It has a good plot, and I probably would have given it a higher rating had it not been so slow and drawn out. Robin Williams proves once again that he's a terrific actor in roles other than comedies. I recommend this movie, just don't expect a fast paced thriller. However, I can recommend a great fast paced thriller with Robin Williams and Al Pacino, Insomnia, which is a must see!

I've always believed this to be one of Robin Williams films best outside-of-comedy films. The acting is great and the character Williams plays is extremely creepy and the plot holds weight and interest. When this came on the scene, indie films weren't as mainstream as they are today, so not many people knew about this film or even bothered to give it a time of day, giving it the ultimate underrated status that it shouldn't deserve.

This is one of those movies you must watch once. The director and cast do an incredible job of pulling you in and keeping you engaged. It is gut wrenching in a way because people like that do exist and it makes you want to reach out and help someone that fits the loner mold, which also isn't necessarily safe, lol.

Watched this movie a while back as a Robin Williams fan. Thought it would be interesting to see him in a Suspense/Thriller role seeing as how I had never seen him in one before. To my surprise he performed extremely well. Williams pulls off sadistic and obsessive better then anyone could guess. My hat to him.

One Hour Photo is definitely not one of those films for the faint of heart and definitely attempts to be quite unsettling. It stars Robin Williams and is about a guy who works at the One Hour Photo department at a superstore. He goes all crazy and falls for this one family he's been developing photos for.

Great direction and acting create a creepy good time. See Robin Williams in a role outside of comedy and have your neck hair raise. The special features are worth watching if you are into how the film was made and the creative team that put the film together. Worth a viewing if you need a new scary movie.
