Easy setup, works flawlessly
||Posted .I just plugged it in per the instructions, logged into Ooma, and within 30 minutes was making a phone call with my new phone number. You get to keep the new number even if you have your existing ported over, which I did. Both numbers work on the phone. Ooma's support is very good too - I called to confirm the unlimited calling to Canada with the premium plan before purchasing, and they were very helpful. The premium plan including tax is about $14 / month for unlimited US and Canada calling. I am totally satisfied.

Great way to add a home "land-line" phone & number
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed. If you already have broadband internet you simple plug the Ooma device into your router and follow their setup process and that's it. You now have a "land-line" phone at your house that allows you to plug in normal phones. I plugged in my Panasonic base unit that has a wireless handset and 3 additional wireless handsets extensions placed throughout my home. This unit requires a WIRED connection to your router. Ooma sells a wireless and BT adapter you can plug into base unit if you can't wire it in directly or want base unit in different room. Things to take into account. ITS NOT A COMPLETELY FREE PHONE. You will have to setup an account with Ooma and pay a monthly base fee that includes: 1) Regulatory Compliance Fee; 2) 911 Service fee; 3) Local Interconnect Recovery Fee; 4) State and local taxes, fees and surcharges. ETC. It's a phone. There's always a bunch of fees. :( All of the above fees vary depending on your zip-code/location. My fees for all the above is $5.11/month. Yours my be a bit more or less but around $4-6/month. You can go to their site and look up your monthly fee. Ooma has a bunch of extra phone "features" you can add that costs $20/month but they are extras you don't have to pay for.

Helps Lower Your Cable Bill!
||Posted .I was looking for ways to trim my cable bill, and wondered if I could get a better deal on phone service. Call me crazy, but I still prefer to have a landline for voice quality and reliability (and for the occasional faxes). Cell reception in my house isn't the greatest, so I prefer the landline when talking to friends/family. The phone portion of my cable bill was $40/month (yikes!). I was familiar with Vonage, but that was still $10/month. After some researching, I came across Ooma. It got good overall reviews, and was one of the top rated services in a leading consumer research magazine. I got my Ooma unit at Best Buy. It was super easy to setup (plug one end into my router and the other into my phone line). Sign up was a breeze, and I was able to get service almost instantaneously. I wanted to port my old phone number, and saw they charged a porting fee. If you signed up for one year of their "plus" service, they waved that fee. I chose this option, since I found a discount code (I can always cancel next year, since I probably won't use the extra features). The porting process took around a week, but I got status notifications along the way. I've been using it for several weeks now and really like the Ooma app on my iPhone. It notifies me whenever I get calls at home, and I can listen to VM from anywhere. There are tons of other features available, but I haven't used them. I've also used Ooma to call family in London "on the cheap". BTW, the only thing you have pay for each month are taxes/utility fees (~$5 for me). I know phone lines aren't that exciting, but this unit shines in helping me trim my utility bill!

New and improved
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This was a replacement to my prior ooma who met it's demise from a lightening strike. This is a vast improvement to the older version. Buttons higher and it's easier to clean. It's super easy to install and if you want a phone to be used at home for cheap this is the way to go. You won't be disappointed.

Good value and over best deal ever !
||Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.11/2020 I switched to Verizon FIOS and like many others I cut the cord from Optimum services and took my land line to Ooma. It's called porting your number in order to keep the number you current have. So happy I did. Simply works better too. You can install an app on your iphone or Android cell phone to make, receive, and get voice messages directly from your ported number or simply use the box to connect you personal phone at home. Just realized you will have a one time charge to have your current phone number switched over which is called ported. After that the cost for me per month is 5 bucks and change for taxes and fees for NJ. Best deal ever ;)

Very nice savings.
||Posted .About a year ago, I bought an Obi telephone device but found it too complicated to set up. I bought the Ooma so that I could save money by dropping my cable companies phone service. I expected to save about $20 a month. I bought the Ooma, set it up in 5 minutes, and activated the service. I then sent out an E-Mail to friends giving my new phone number. I then contacted the cable company and asked to drop their phone service. Instead of dropping it, they gave me a $40 monthly discount for 12 months to keep it as part of my cable/internet/vice combination plan. As the Ooma only is costing me $4.23 a month, I will keep both services going until next year. The Ooma device was extremely easy to set up and the voice quality is superb. It has a lot of features. The best features are the call blocking of up to 256 phone numbers and a community blacklist so when other people block telemarketers or scam calls, you will automatically have the calls blocked also. The Ooma exceeded my expectations.

Q: Questioncan you keep your existing phone number?
Asked by glorias.
- A:Answer In most cases yes... Ooma calls it "Porting" you old number. My previous service was CenturyLink. When you set up your Ooma, you select a temporary number from what I thought was a fairly wide range of available numbers. You can then put in a request to port your old number. In my case, the whole operation, from request to when my old number was active on the Ooma was about a week, but they warn that it could be 3 to 4 weeks. There is a cost for this, however. You can choose to prepay for a year of their premium service for about $120 and they will port your old number for free. Or you can choose to pay about $40 to just port the number and stay with their basic service (which is free, except for taxes, which are about $5 per month). I hope this helps!

Q: QuestionDo u have to have internet? What's cost?
Asked by Pat.
- A:Answer Yes you need internet. Are you asking what the cost of internet is? That depends on your provider and level of service. The cost of using the phone itself is nothing, except for taxes as the other answerer touched on. That cost is minimal. I believe it will cost extra for international calls but check Ooma for details.

Q: QuestionCan I pay for the monthly fees $ taxes with a credit card?
Asked by EdDR.
- A:Answer Yes, I do. Set it up with your least favorite card. It is very difficult to cancel the service. The best way is by cancelling the card used to pay it. I am currently very satisfied with the service.

Q: QuestionWill my vtech phones I currently use with my cable phone service work with this?
Asked by Phone.
- A:Answer Yes. I have a Panasonic 3 handset DECT cordless phone system, and they work the same as when I had them through Comcast. Easy set-up. You don't need Ooma linx either which is what I had wondered. The DECT works the same as it did before - the handsets are all synced.

Q: QuestionIf I replace my old existing OOMA unit (getting faulty) with a new replacement OOMA, can I keep my existing OOMA telephone number and without a extra charge? If I already have an OOMA account is the new replacement unit simply plug and play? Thanks
Asked by Sunset.
- A:Answer Yes. But, you must notify Ooma Telo Customer Service you are replacing the Ooma Telo Unit with a new one and supply them with the new Ooma Telo Unit's Serial Number and MAC address. They do the magic to complete the installation.

Q: QuestionDo I have to cancel my phone service with my present carrier before attempting to "port" my number to my Ooma device?
Asked by 87cab.
- A:Answer Do NOT cancel your service with your current provider! On the ooma website request a number port and provide them with the current number you wish to port. You will need additional info including account number and port PIN from your current carrier. I had to contact my current carrier to get the PIN. Their stated time to perform this is 3-4 weeks, but ours was accomplished in 6 days. When the port is complete your old carrier will discontinue service. They kept us updated on progress via email. There is a charge by ooma for this service unless you have signed up for premier service. Leave your phones plugged into the old equipment until the port is complete then move the rj11 jack to the back of the telo. Hope this helps.
