Awesome picture
||Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.I originally purchased the UHD50 and I wasn't blown away. I returned it and swapped for the UHD50A and I'm well pleased. The picture quality is much more defined, consistent, and worth every dollar. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to connect to Alexa which comes with the projector. It's difficult at this point. I connected the firecube which gives a much better picture than the firestick and has the built in Alexa which serves the same purpose so it's fine. Also, this shows well during the day which was to my surprise being that we don't have any blackout curtains up just yet. I love it!

First Projector
Posted .Yes this is my first projector so I have nothing but an tv to compare this to. Picture quality, the colors are very nice, I didn’t have a need to adjust any colors, I set the projector lamp to dynamic black and eco mode otherwise. Reds are very red so that could be adjusted down a bit. Brightness, this is the only area of concern if you have a living room like me, it’s not made to be used with windows open or lights on, so be prepared to pull the drapes or control lights to get best picture. 4k HDR is very clear, colors look good, I wish it had a little more pop in brightness, however I could try to make some settings adjustments, but that’s just me. The great thing about this projector is 4k ability, 3D, and the ability to project an 135 inch plus image with only 12 to 13 ft btw the screen. I would have given higher but like I said d I have not seen another 4k projector,

V. Good 4k but sound issues
||Posted .Its a very good projector for dark room projection and 4k clarity and color accuracy. Placement needs to be accurate in center of screen for lack of adjustment. One of the reason i bought this over benq 2550 was its capability to return sound stream via optical output. But realized later after buying and trying a lot that sound output is only 2 channel. So i can stream 4k via roku plugged to projector but cannot get 5.1 or 7.1 to my hometheatre. And same applies to anything playing directly on projector. Wish it could return atleast 5.1. Found ways around to make things work but would have not spent extra over benq 2550 if I had known sound issues. With sound field leveled this and benq seems similar in picture quality just the later at lower price.

Good projector with some flaws
Posted .Bought this on sale and for the price its good. Specs aren't great for original price tag. I use Sony 4K 7.1 receiver with a 5.1 surround system and the combination worked well for me. Pros: 4K and 3D. Sharp and clear. Low fan noise. Back lit remote. Vertical lens shift. Alexa / Google Voice support. Cons: Not brighter for 2400 lumens in partially lit room. Room must be dark. 3" Light bleed around the picture bothers initially and may not notice when you get used to it. Attaching Lens cap makes the zoom lens move so refocus required everytime. EZCast setup is tricky and doesn't cast youtube videos from mobile app. Speakers aren't good for movies. Need a receiver and surround sound.

Great 4k projector
||Posted .Initially I didn't know anything about optoma..as I never heard about this brand before but after getting this projector I was stunned with the quality and it also supports hdr and works with alexa as well...great product I have been using this for the past few months and it is a charm...

Awesome projector
||Posted .For the cost, this is a great projector. I have ceiling mounted it, and it works well. I wish it had a keystone to allow more offset onto the screen, but I have gotten used to a higher picture. Fan sound is much quieter than my old projector. Only issue I have is there is a bit too much red in faces, but I am sure that is just picture tuning.

Solid for $1500 Range
||Posted .The projector has a great 4k image and HDR looks pretty sweet after you dial it in. Downside is not very bright for well-lit room. HDR might not work for future streaming which will blow, but I'm enjoying the heck out of it now.

Good product we experienced some issues
||Posted .Best Buy didn’t carry this projector in stock. We had to order it. I waited over a week to get it in and then when we hooked it up the remote was glitchy at first and then didn’t work at all. This was important that it worked because our projector is ceiling mounted. So we packed it up and took it back. They tried to offer us a replacement remote with no guarantee that the remote was actually the issue. So we had them return this to the manufacturer and get us a replacement. The second go round we were able to get a fully functioning projector and we love it. We don’t use it to it’s full capability but for our little home theater I am more than satisfied.

Q: Questionwhat kind of glasses are needed to watch the 3-D? I assume they are passive similar to the movie theatre. Does it recognize a 3-D signal automatically?
Asked by James.
- A:Answer Actually, this projector does not work with Passive 3D glasses; it uses DLP-Link glasses. Depending on the quality of glasses, they link up pretty quickly after you turn them on when a 3D source is playing and you have line of sight to the screen.

Q: Questionthe difference betwween UHD51A and UHD51ALV please,thks.
Asked by CuGhe.
- A:Answer there are 2 main differences from what I can see. the most obvious is the Optoma UHD51ALV is rated at 3,000 lumens vs. 2,400 for the UHD51A. in Optoma literature, the "LV" in the model number stands for lights on viewing. the other difference that I can see is the color wheel on UHD51ALV is utilizing RGBWRGBW type, while UHD51A shows RGBRGB color wheel.

Q: QuestionI have a 1:235 screen. Can this projector project in the 235 format or will it only project in the 16x9 format. I ultimately worried that if I watch a 235 movie in the full size of my screen I will have large black bars above and below my screen
Asked by Snow.
- A:Answer It does not have capability to project in anamorphic 2.35:1. It can project the letterboxed image on your 2.35:1 screen and have the black bars outside the screen. It has a 1.3 zoom, so theoretically you can zoom the lens in and out to switch between 16:9 and 2.35:1, but you'd have to do the zooming manually each time since it doesn't have lens memory.

Q: QuestionDoes this one have The tru Motion setting ? Unlike the uhd50
Asked by Mike1976.
- A:Answer actually I think I know the answer. though Optoma calls it "Puremotion", yes according to their spec sheet on the site, UHD51A has MEMC or pure motion

Q: QuestionThe warranty on this projector is 2 Years right? The specifications mentions 90 days. I believe it should be 2 years parts and labor 90 days lamp?
Asked by Happyme.
- A:Answer according to the Optoma web site, it is a 2 year warranty. 90 days is on the lamp only. many DLP manufactures have less warranty on the lamps because people misuse them I guess. I have a 3 year old UHD50 (not 4K, 1080P) and though I use it about 35-40 hours a week, never had any issue with the original lamp. https://www.optoma.com/us/product/uhd51a/ look at the bottom of this page hope that helps
