follow directions for best results
|Posted .I would first like to mention how nice this blender looks, the brushed nickel looks very classy, and the picture is heavy glass, with a removable blade and base. Overall the look and feel of the device and glass is pretty high quality. The buttons are protected with a durable layer of plastic, yet still very easy to press. The covered buttons also make for very easy cleaning. The Oster Master series blender offers many preset blending functions. It's very easy to select what you want and either press the play/start button or the pulse button to start blending. The pulse button by itself is used to get chunkier blends. However you really need to read the directions to get the hang of how to use the chunky features properly, otherwise you will just end up pureeing everything. When prepping for larger chunk cuts/blends you really need to make sure you have enough liquid in the picture, or place the items you don't mind pureed on the bottom, so they can give the larger items more room to move down to the blades. I found that I was getting smaller chunks than I wanted because of these two issues, but also because I was using very large pieces of food. I wanted to see how it would do, with the minimal amount of work from the user. ( I have included some pics to show the before and after effects of my attempts) I think big chunks are possible with this blender, but under the right circumstances. Of course, these terms are all relative to one's own perspective. I was aiming for Chunky soup in a can size bits. Again I think it is possible , if you have the right amount of loose fluid, and the right size chops to start with. Then simply hit the pulse button a few short times to get your desired size cuts. The smoothies and milk shakes came out perfect. After selecting the right buttons and hitting start, the machine goes through a series of higher and lower speed cycles to help circulate the food, so not just the bottom of the jar gets chopped up. The salsa even came out really good on the recommended cycles. with small chunks, perfect for dipping, yet still big enough to sit on the chip. (see pictures) Overall I think this is a GREAT blender with great consistencies, and a pretty good chopper( with a little experimenting ) If the pictures come out in the right order: 1- large chunk experiment , 2 - chunky soup , 3- smoothie ingredients (added as is) , 4 - smoothie , 5- milkshake , 6- salsa

Good Blender with some perks
|Posted .The Oster Master Series Blender is exactly that a simple to use blender. This blender has several options to choose from, you can select the food mode Chop or Smoothie, the texture from thin, medium or thick or you can also select a pulse option. Theres is also a speed selector options low, medium or high. When taken out of the box I notice this blender was very light, to my surprise, the body is made of plastic, don’t get me wrong the brushed nickel look really nice but I thought it was aluminum not plastic. The glass jar is heavier than the actual blender and you can fit 1.5 Ltr. On the cap of the jar lid there is a filler cap which is not something new but is good to have that way you don't need to remove the lid to keep adding things while you blend. I have owned several blenders in the past and I currently have a Ninja a side from this one. There are few things I really like about it and the first one it is quieter, second it makes a whole lot better smoothies and sofrito, and lastly is easier to clean. When it start blending it start slow then gradually pick up speed. I did notice while using it the blades kind of pause or slowed down then it makes the content dipped in the center then started to spin fast again pushing the content back up, it kind of simulate agitation which was pretty cool. No more need to lift the jar and agitate to bring thicker content closer to the blade. Cleaning it is very simple, you can take everything. Blender also comes with a smoothie cup for on the go, and you can blend in it as well. Overall a good blender it does what it claims and quieter than others. In the box it comes with the Blender, glass jar, lid with lid cap, smoothie cup, detachable blade, and manual.

Great Blender at a Reasonable Price
|Posted .The Oster Master Series blender comes packaged in a your basic box with cardboard inserts to keep everything situated until you are ready to take it out. Included are the blender base, standard blending pitcher, an on-the-go cup, as well as the user guide. Upon opening, the base is extremely light and the pitcher's weight is quite substantial. Not unreasonably so, but it's definitely got some heft to it. Immediately, the shine of the brushed nickle caught my eye. It's a bit shiny for me and doesn't match with some of my other appliances with a brushed metal finish, but it still looks nice. The control panel is pretty straight forward with controls that operate the food mode (smoothie or food chop), texture (thin, medium, or thick), pause/stop, plus, and then controls that adjust the speed of the blade. By selecting a food mode and texture, that overrides the blade speed which would really only be used if you were going to do a manual start/stop or pulsing. More on that later. The control panel did feel a little cheap to me. It's a completely flat surface which makes for easy cleanup, but I just felt the buttons lacked a certain high end feel. The blender operates pretty much like any other blender. I have a VERY VERY old Oster blender (from the 70s or 80s) that still works and has some of the basic options with varying degrees of speed selection. What is nice about this new blender is that you select a food mode, texture, and then the start button and it does the rest. It will automatically run a pre-determined speed and stop intermittently. I found this was a great feature as it allowed items to sink into the mixture so that they can make contact with the blades once it resumes. I decided to make homemade salsa (first time ever) with the Oster Master Series and wasn't disappointed. I quartered one tomatoes, an onion, threw in a couple of serrano peppers, cilantro, cumin, garlic salt (I got lazy), and some salt/pepper. Using the food chop+thick setting, it did a very good job of getting all of the ingredients consistently chopped and mixed. I made some adjustments to seasoning and added another tomato and repeated. My salsa turned out a bit finer than I intended but that was my fault for not starting off with the right amount of tomato to begin with. In the end, I was extremely pleased with the texture even if it was by accident. The blender was also pretty darn quiet so that was a surprise. You can easily use this blender and hear the TV or continue a conversation while in use. After using, cleanup was a breeze. I lifted the pitcher from the base and washed in the sink. The pitcher is dishwasher safe so not to worry all of you who despise hand washing items. I haven't decided whether or not to keep the Oster Master Series on my counter or store it away below. It's a lower profile than my previous model from last century so storing on the counter under the cabinets wouldn't be a problem. It's design is also attractive enough that I don't mind showing it off--even if I'm not a fan of the highly polished 'nickle' finish. In conclusion, I think this is a great blender for the price that you pay. There are many much more expensive models out there if you want more functionality. For my needs and the needs of most people, I think this blender will easily handle whatever you throw into it without breaking the bank. Pros: -Light base -Quiet -Texture Select -Blend-n-Go cup -Good value Cons: -Somewhat cheap feeling control panel -Personally, the 'brushed nickle' is too shiny

Great Blender for the Money
|Posted .If you're looking for a blender that does what a blender should do without being overly complicated or looking like a bohemoth in your kitchen the Oster Texture Select Master Series Blender is a great option! Design It looks like what you would expect a normal blender to look like. The simple front control panel has a power button at the top. This walks you through the operation: 1. Press the Power button 2. Choose "Smoothie" or "Food Chop" 3. Choose "Thin", "Medium", or "Thick" texture 4. Push "Play/Stop" 5. Let it run until it's done or press "Play/Stop" to stop it early. You can also use the "Low", "Med", and "High" settings instead of the above. Just choose one and then press "Play/Stop" to start and again when you want to stop. You can use the "Pulse" to blend in quick bursts or as long as you're holding it down - it blends while you press it as you would expect. The front control panel is also flat so you can easily wipe it clean if you need. I also really like the way it has one blade for the pitcher or the cup. While it means there are less parts and less to clean it also makes the pitcher easier to clean than other blenders we have used. The blade/base is easy to screw on and off to move between the pitcher and the cup. We love having the cup for it. We probably used it more than the pitcher as we've found people in our family often like different blends so it's nice to have the cup to make smaller amounts of different things. Make sure you hold the cup on - probably the pitcher too. One time when I was blending with the cup it popped up, loose. It didn't fall off bout it was totally loose and probably would have fallen but I got to it very quickly. I stopped the blender, put the cup back in place, and started the blender again. Texture So what's with the texture modes? I did some testing but couldn't come up with great picture to show you of different textures. I did a very good job blending a bunch of frozen fruit, a banana, an entire fresh orange (pealed), and gave us a very good and smooth drink. I do like using them because they blend and stop, on and off for about the first 25 seconds of blending. This allows the contents to shift and readjust increasing the chance that everything will get blended well and evenly. After that each mode runs a different amount of time and then stops when it's done. You can tell it's done because the power button will flash. Please see my rough timing results below: Thin 125 seconds Pulsing for about 25 seconds first Medium 110 seconds Pulsing for about 25 seconds first Thick 55 sec Pulsing for about 25 seconds first Blend Quality I posted a picture you can see that shows the very smooth consistency I got when blending mixed fruit combined with fresh fruit. It also shows one piece of frozen fruit that was missed in the blend. This was the only time that happened but it may have been because I had it filled above the max fill line. Make sure to keep everything you put in below the max fill line. I will stress again, this was the only time that happened out of many fresh and frozen fruit smoothies we have made. Fruit with a lot of strings in it, like oranges did seem to leave a fair amount of pulp behind. I like the pulp but my 8 year old didn't. Maybe I could have blended it more and it wouldn't have been noticeable but it had been very well blended and the rest looks smooth as you can see in the picture. Overall The Oster Texture Select Master Series Blender blends well, includes a single-serve cup, has programs if you want them, is lower-profile than a lot of blenders these days, and has an easy to clean pitcher all at what I think is a very impressive price point! Those are all the reasons I gave this blender 5 stars! If you plan to do a lot of stringy fruit and don't want any pulp or want a blender that has a pitcher or cup that you do not need to hold on while it blends, this may not be the blender for you. Keep in mind though, you can pay a lot more for a blender. There are probably a lot of people who have done that who would be just as well served by this one.

Cost Effective Blender
|Posted .Are you looking for an affordable blender that gets the job done? Then the Oster Texture Select Blender is for you! This blender has the capability of making salsas, soups, smoothies, and chopping foods. A Blend-N-Go Cup is included, which makes it convenient for those that would like to take their item to work with them. USING THE GLASS JAR: My friends' and I decided to make a unique sauce for pancakes. We used apples, carrots, ice, water, and kiwi. Once selecting the smoothie/medium button, the items blended fairly quickly, and the sauce came out great!. We suggest using the thin or medium button to make sure all items blend smoothly. It all depends upon your preference. NEED SALSA? The following day my family and I were getting ready to watch a movie and needed salsa for our chips. Fresh organic tomatoes, white onions, a whole glove of garlic, yellow and green bell peppers, cayenne pepper, cumin, and paprika were placed into the Blender. We selected the Food Chop and Thick button to blend. It was delicious. USING THE BLEND-N-GO CUP: Lastly, I have been under the weather lately and decided to mix me up a vitamin drink which consisted of 1 apple, 12 ounces of tangerines, ice, and my vitamin mixture. Pressed the Smoothie and Thick button to blend, and it blended seamlessly. PROS: *Glass Jar *Blend-N-Go Cup (Great for me since I am constantly in and out of the house). *Pre-Programmed Settings *Automatically blends once buttons are selected CONS: *Wish a recipe book came with the blender. Other than that it is great!

A Great Blender for Smoothies!
|Posted .I just recently got this mixer for my in-home bar and I'm quite pleased with it. I haven't had a need or chance to use all of the texture preset controls yet, but I did use it to chop ice, make a milkshake for the kids, and a smoothie for myself. It's far quieter and a much smaller footprint than the high-end mixer it replaced. It's a nice basic blender that makes it easy to make a smoothie by just selecting the consistency that you want. I love the to-go travel mug that it comes with it so I can make a smoothie and not have to worry about having to clean the larger blender jar. The only reason why I give this 4 stars and not 5 is that the jar lid seal was not 100% leak-proof. Not a whole lot got out, just a bit, but it was filled up pretty high with ingredients. Not a big enough issue to pass on it though.

Just Blend It!!
|Posted .With all the different choices in Blenders out there it is really refreshing to see a really well built, easy to use high-quality blender by Oster. At the time of this review, the price of this unit was $69.99. It is a brushed Nickle base and Real Glass Blending Jar and also comes with a 24 oz Blend-N-Go cup. All very nice, but did the unit perform? The unit has 6 Pre-Programmed settings giving you a myriad of different settings to change the texture from Thick to Thin of your blend whether it be just a simple fruit smoothie to a food chopper. The base is a metal base with an all-metal drive. The setting includes Food Mode: Smoothie and Food Chop. The setting for Thickness is Thin, Medium and Thick. Then my favorite, the Pulse Mode. My first blend was a strawberry Banana smoothie using the Thin mode for thickness and thee low pulse mode and hit the start arrow and was very impressed that the blender did not shoot up at all and evenly chopped up all the contents to make a very nice smoothie for the morning. Very impressed. Later at night, I was able to use the food chop setting for the thickness of thick for a great blend of salsa with tomatoes, green onions, pepper, avocado and again used the low blend speed setting and really did a great job. I am looking forward to using this more and more for Juicing and all manor of blending. I would recommend this product to anyone. This product is so easy to use, affordable and well built.

Decent blender for everyday use
|Posted .The Oster blender is very simple to use and can perform all the needs you may have for making smoothies and chopping fruits/vegetables. There is a traditional jug-type top unit that’s made with glass, and it’s very well made (but a bit heavy). Them there’s a smaller “tumbler-type” unit that is super convenient when you’re trying to make a small serving smoothies. The control is straightforward and easy. For generic use there are three speed settings, and they can be run continuously, or in a pulsed way. The pulse button helps evenly blend fruits etc. insteady everything getting churned up towards the top. Them there are some preset buttons for smoothies and chopping, and you can also select what kind of texture you want (Thin, Medium, and Thick). I have tried the preset setting for some smoothies, but even with the “Thin” texture selected, I could see that some smaller vegetables (carrots) were not properly chopped/blended. Overall the blended is quite good at it’s job, and very well made.
