Overwatch Origins Edition - PlayStation 4

Everything about this game is fun. It's fast-paced and has plenty of characters to choose from. Each character has unique abilities and weaknesses and it's up to you to figure out which one works best with your current team. You're encouraged to try them all. After a while you settle on a few favorites. Besides the incredible art and graphics, I'm slowly discovering that there is a lot of story buried in the game. It's Blizzard after all and they're known for deep lore. This game is great for pretty much any fan of first-person shooters. Be warned though, there's not story mode so if you're thinking of not participating in the PvP action, you're in for disappointment. This is 100% PvP right now. Maybe Blizzard will add story modes later.

It's been awhile since I've played such a diverse game like OVERWATCH. First off the character selection is great! 21 heroes to choose from and all with different abilities you must master. No so many game modes, but the games can last a long time. The game is brilliantly polished and just a blast to play! I highly recommend OVERWATCH to anyone who's is a fan of multiplayer. THERE IS NO STORY MODE! All is online play.

I have put about 20+ hours in to this game between the open beta and the preorder, and these are my thoughts. Firstly, if you played the open beta, then you have played the full game. If you were hoping for something extra to put you over the top, then you might want to look elsewhere. If you enjoyed the beta, as I did, then be free in the knowledge that nothing much has changed. There is so much to like about what Overwatch is. It is a fun, frantic firefight with a glorious array of different characters, none of which feels the same as any of the others. There are 4 main classes (Offense, Defense, Support and Tank), but these are more of guidelines then set in stone. Every character is unique, with special weapons, skills and abilities that change the way you play and how the other team has to respond to you. And if you and your friend both want to play as the giant ape scientist with the chain lightning gun, or the samurai archer, or the robot that turns into a sentry gun, you totally can. There is no limit on your team makeup, which is nice if you happen to have the same play style as one of your teammates. There are several maps at launch that are fun and thought out, with various vantage points for sniping and winding passages for close combat. The graphics are beautiful with vibrant colors, and the world is surprisingly detailed. From Japan to Hollywood, Greece to Nepal, each location feels special. The maps themselves also have some degree of interaction. I spent more time that i should have trying to shoot a basketball with my rocket launcher into a hoop in my starting base. There are only three different modes for MP. In Escort, one team tries to deliver a vehicle to the other side of the map while the other team's job is to slow them down until time runs out. Moving the vehicle requires close proximity by at least one member of the attacking team. In Assault, one team is trying to capture two command areas before time runs out, while the defending team is trying once again to stop them. And in Control, both teams are trying to capture a command area for a designated amount of time. Players used to FPS's may find themselves frustrated at first, as winning usually calls for more than just shooting everything that you see. Cooperation is key, and poorly made teams can find themselves pushed back frustratingly quick. However, in my experience matches are usually tense and rarely one sided, but there does seem to be a lack of diversity in the gameplay. Matches follow a similar structure-rush your forces towards one area and try to take it over, then move to the next. Death causes a short break from the action, and then you are respawned back at your base. Very standard, and though the various maps and modes somewhat make up for this, the game does start to feel stale. One thing that is most jarring when first playing Overwatch is that there is no leveling system. Like, at all. Each player has access to the same group of 21 characters that everyone else has, with the same set of skills for each individual character. For people used to FPS's like Call of Duty or Destiny, having static characters may seem a little odd at first. There is also no Aiming Down Sights, with the exception of one or two characters. This may also be difficult at first. Overwatch's main failure is in the lack of a story campaign. With so many characters with vibrant, colorful personalities it seems a shame that we don't ever get to really learn anything about them. There is no narrative that ties the characters together, or gives you really any reason at all to explain why a Eskimo wielding a freeze gun would be fighting alongside some dude that looks like he got ripped out of a Mad Max film. This may not bug you, but $60 is a little too much for me for what is essentially a 3 mode MP. Overall, Overwatch is a very fun game that would be much better with a story or campaign of some kind. There are a limited number of game modes, but apparently Blizzard is intent on adding more characters and maps later on down the road via free DLC, similar to what Splatoon has done. This makes me happy and is enough to garner my support. Overwatch is a fun to play game that offers large amounts of strategy and replayability, but the lack of content at launch is noticeably disappointing. But dangit, it is fun to play.

So, I'll begin thusly: I love first person shooters, but prefer them on PC. Still, I own lots on my consoles, as well, and due to my PC breaking down and a plethora of surgeries that left me unable to place my arm on a PC desk, even if it hadn't been broken, I chose to grab this on PS4 to help alleviate boredom. For those who find aiming to be more precise on PC, Overwatch delivers a precision on console that is maybe only equaled by the Wolfenstein games, Titanfall 2, & the remake of Doom. Buttery smooth and responsive, you'll quickly be jumping into games and holding your own. (Aided by Blizzard's matchmaking system). Overwatch hands over two dozen unique heroes, each with different strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, all falling within different categories (offense, defense, tank, support). These roles are often more fluid than in some other games, but learning to master the character, how s/he best fits within the group of 6 in your group, and on the map- is key. Luckily, much like the classes are fluid, so is learning how to best be used is, as well. And, if a hero is not working out for you within a group or map, you can switch the hero out after a death, as often as you'd like during a game. And that's what truly allows Overwatch to live up to its hype, something I'm normally wary of, its as adaptable as you are. That's not to say there isn't a "wrong way" to play with certain heroes- there is, but you'd almost have to intentionally be oblivious to head down that path. There's a huge amount of rewards to keep customizing your heroes, and all heroes are unlocked from the get-go. There's nothing extra for leveling that makes the heroes better, so you needn't worry that entering Overwatch a year after release is going to end with you being massacred. On the negative side, for those wanting any sort of single-player outside an initial tutorial, or even matches with bots taking the place of other players, you're out of luck. This isn't a deal breaker, but it's a huge shame. It's something Unreal Tournament had been doing two decades ago, and as practice for learning maps without the fear of disappointing teammates, it was an invaluable tool. Outside of that, there's not much to harp on about Overwatch. It's incredibly fun, rewarding as you learn, and even has intense stat-tracking that focuses more on positives than negatives. The hype about this game was well-deserved. Honestly, this may very well be only behind, maybe even slightly ahead of, Titanfall 2 as my favorite multiplayer shooter.

Fun game in the arena shooter style. Characters are fun, maps are interesting, but mostly feels narrow and funneled. Wouldn't say it's worth full price since there's no single player campaigns and a pretty predatory loot box system. Boxes can be earned but with the amount of items released each holiday it takes ungodly amounts of time to collect the specific skin you want (if you're not lucky) Prepare for some anger going into ranked modes as some people take the it much too seriously. Either way, if you enjoy typical arena shooters with extra modes each week. You'll most likely enjoy this!

Overwatch is an awesome multiplayer only first person shooter, massive online battle arena type of game that lets teamwork be the forefront. The game lets you pick different characters with different types of abilities. That is a factor in why it is important to have teamwork in this game. The amount of different characters is vast, but the game modes and maps can feel repetitive over time as it will randomly select the game type and map when you search for games. Overall, this is a fun game if you can get pass the repetitiveness of it.

Look at the current gaming landscape and you'll see that most publishers will try to gouge out as much cash as they can from the consumers with DLCs, add-ons, etc. Publishers will release a game with limited content to sell DLC months later in order to continue taking your money. Overwatch is the opposite of this trend. Whenever you purchase this game, you will get the full game. Yes, you can purchase loot boxes for cosmetic items for the playable heroes, but you can also earn them through playing the game. With a plethora of playable characters, you can find your favorites to engage in casual, arcade, or competitive play. With the popularity of this title, Blizzard will continually pump out content for this game. Currently the game runs at 1080p, 60 frames per second on consoles. Hopefully, in the future, the game will gain support to run at a higher resolution.
