    Synopsis

    Palo Alto
Gia Coppola makes her feature directorial debut with this drama adapted from a series of short stories by James Franco, who stars as a soccer coach in the titular California town where bored teens begin to stir up trouble. April (Emma Roberts) is a virtuous soccer star whose impressive athleticism masks a deep-rooted timidity. Admired from afar by sensitive artist Teddy (Jack Kilmer), April earns some extra cash babysitting for her single coach Mr. B. (Franco), whose affection for his star player leads the pair into a risky affair. Meanwhile, Teddy continues to perform community service as the result of a DUI he received while stirring up trouble with his unpredictable friend Fred (Nat Wolff), whose seduction of promiscuous outsider Emile (Zoe Levin) begins to turn volatile as April gradually starts to respond to the affections of her not-so-secret admirer. Val Kilmer, Claudia Levy, and Chris Messina co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I'll preface it with this: There are plenty of great Hollywood-type films that are excellent, so in no way am I bashing those types of films. But when it comes to my favorites, a lot of them tend to be indie films. While this does have a couple big names, it's still an indie film. I have no complaints with the acting, which I think is top-notch. The script (I haven't read the book, so I can't comment on it) isn't that unique but still leaves plenty to work with. To me, the character development just doesn't evolve enough to make you really, really care about the characters as much as you should with a film like this. It's a decent flick. Just not great.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this movie. Great acting all around, but the plot wasn't as cohesive as I would've liked. Still worth seeing.

If you are a Franco fan, I suggest you read the book instead. This film adaptation does not capture the joy of the written word.

Movie was average. Good cast. Story was pretty basic. James Franco has had much better roles

The movie was slow and boring. The ending was horrible and the acting wasn't that great.

We've seen this all done before, though the acting is strong.
