I have waited over a year for this Panasonic 4K Player. It was worth the wait. As long as you have a quality 4K television you won't be disappointed. The picture exceeded my expectations. Please keep in mind you need to purchase high quality HDMI cables to obtain the best possible picture. I purchased the Carbon Series from AudioQuest.
The Dmp-ub900 is also very easy to set up and use. You do not need to be an expert. It has some very cool options as well. It has both coaxial and optical hookups for sound. A detachable power cord. If you are not using the remote, the 'on/off' and 'disk tray open' are touch sensitive, no buttons. And like my Panasonic television it is THX certified. It is almost a piece of highly functional piece of art. The remote is also very easy to use and is brightly illuminated by the touch of a button in dark rooms. I got mine on sale, but still would have paid full price. Absolutely no regrets come with this purchase. 5 stars all around.

This player replaced a competing product, x800 player. The UB900 does an excellent job of rendering 4k and 4k HDR from disks. Set up was easy, and WIFI connection to NETFLIX is good. NETFLIX streaming of 4k is very sharp and clear [on a Samsung JS8500]. While not as heavy as the x800, it is solidly built and feels substantial. Operation is quiet. While it provides a significant upgrade in potential audio capability, I only have it connected to the TV via HDMI cable. No issues of skipping or freezing on either NETFLIX programs, 4k, BluRay, or DVD disks. While the 4k/HDR is excellent, this player really seems to shine on playing Blu Ray and DVD disks thru its upscaling capabilities. The colors appear deeper, in addition to a sharper image. To be fair, the degree of improvement does vary based on the underlying quality of the disks' original transfer, as some disks show marked improvement versus only moderate on others. As pointed out in other reviews, the Apps available on the player are limited to NETFLIX and I believe Amazon, so if looking for streaming use, other players have more choices. Currently the player only supports HDR10, which in my case was not an issue as the TV is a Samsung. The player also has a single USB port. I would say the upscaling of media coming from a USB source is not as great as when upscaling a disk. I also noted, that when playing a 4k disk the player shows it is transferring using the 10 bit color, even though the player is 8/12 bit. [TV max is 10 bit] On Blu Ray disks the player shows it is transferring 8 bit. Overall the player is definitely not the low cost choice, however, the quality of the picture when playing any type of disk was better than the x800. I also found the picture quality on NETFLIX streaming to be equal to or slightly better then that produced by a ROKU Premier+ box. Overall, a very good player.

Best 4K Blu Ray Player you can buy

If you want the best possible picture from 1080p or 4K Ultra Blu Ray discs then this is the player to get. I own the Oppo 103 1080p player and the Sony UBP-X800 4K player and I can tell you this Panasonic is much better than either and they are excellent players. This Player upscales 1080p discs to 4K so good that you cannot tell it's not true 4K ... Honestly! As far as 4K discs are concerned I was skeptical that it'd be noticeably better than the Sony but boy I was wrong ... This Panny is much, much, sharper than the Sony and the colors are much better as well. I can see more shadow and color detail and the picture is nearly 3D. If you've invested in a 4K Ultra HD HDR capable TV then you owe it to yourself to feed it the best possible Blu Ray signal you can and that would be from this player! I know some out there will point to the Oppo 203 4K player and I don't have one to compare, but the professional reviewers have already done that and most agree the Panasoic is the better of the two from a sheer picture quality standpoint. The Oppo is more flexible and has HDMI inputs, but if you don't need any of the additional features it offers the Panny is better. Also, Don't worry about the color space issues other people have brought up, Panasonic has a firmware upgrade that will allow you to force 10 bit if your TV can't handle 12 bit. Also if you want to send 4:4:4 but are concerned about the 8 bit, which is what the manual says is output, the firmware update fixes the color space output limits and set on Auto it will output the best choice for you TV. I set the color space to Auto on the Panasonic and it sends 4:4:4 12 bit to my Samsung MU8000 TV which has a 10 bit panel. The color is incredible with no banding issues at all. So if you have a 10 bit panel in your TV it probably will handle the 12 bit signal without any color banding issues but if it does show some color banding or distortion you can now set the limit to 10 bit in the Panasonic. If you want the 4K player with the best possible picture available then this is it, period.

I have the fortune of having owned 4K bluray players from Samsung, Panasonic, and Oppo. Let me first say that the picture quality is very good on all 3, but there are differences.
The Panasonic has excellent picture quality, better than the Samsung. You also have a wealth of picture controls that you can tweak to your preference, and great audio capabilities. The remote is nice, and the player itself is fairly robust and attractive. What is not impressive is the price. It is simply not worth 3x the cost of the Samsung.
While the Samsung seems a little more 'bare bones', it is still a great 4K player that provides really good picture quality. It lacks a lot of features that most people will never need. Plus it's current promo price of ~$200 is easy to swallow.
Then you have the Oppo player that is currently less expensive than the Panasonic. The Oppo is simply reference class in terms of picture quality, and provides full control over video and audio settings. Comparing it to the Panny or Sammy on the same movies/scenes, it just takes it to another level in terms of depth and sharpness, and provides just the right gamma curve so that images are not overblown or creating black crush. It squeezes every last drop of resolution, color, and dynamic range out of each 4K bluray movie.
So the Panny is a great player. But not worth $600-$700 in my estimation. I would recommend the Sammy for the budget shopper, or the Oppo for the power user.

I needed a 2nd 4k Blu Ray player. While I was at a local Best Buy store, I saw this player as an open box item. I already own the Sony X800 to go along with my 900e and have been disappointed as I already had to send one back(freezing up, audio loss...do a google search and you will see) The price of the Panny was well less than half of the original price. Since my other tv is the Samsung KS8000, I was originally looking at the Samsung 4k blu Ray players. Since I read a review that stated the Panny Blu Ray player rivals the Oppo I ended up purchasing the Panny. I must say, the player is excellent. Very quite, responsive and the PQ is outstanding. I would say maybe a notch above the Sony x800. The build quality is also good. Not as heavy as the Sony. I have not had any issues at all. I haven’t really tested it for music yet. The only thing I can point out as a negative is the UI where the apps are located. It seems that Panasonic hasn’t changed the look in 20 years. Also, the remote is rather large. However, there is a button to illuminate it which is nice especially in a dark room. All in all, I am very happy with this player.

Great UHD player

I'm nearly completely satisfied with this purchase. Only minor complaints. Wish the display was larger or easier to see. I miss the old days of Super VHS players with beautiful elaborate displays. The remote is great, so much better than the pitiful remote of my Samsung 8500 UHD player that is practically useless for anything but the most basic functions. But the great remote of the Panasonic doesn't seem to work well unless I'm directly in front of the unit. Any angle away from it, seem to cause me to hit the buttons twice or even three times to respond. But that may just be a problem of weak batteries, I'll have to check that out. Performance of the unit itself is great. No complaints about image quality. I had originally planned on getting an Oppo unit to work with my LG Oled television, but after reading some reviews where this Panasonic actually outperformed the Oppo in some cases I decided to buy the Panasonic. I'll wait and purchase an Oppo for the bedroom TV. If the Oppo beats the Panasonic, I'll switch it to the living room LG television. Overall, it usually loads quickly, but every once in a while it seems to stall and takes longer times. That may just be a disc problem. It's a good looking unit, has a nice remote, and works up to expectations. I really couldn't hesitate to recommend it. Bought mine through Best Buy, ordered it online and picked it up at the store. Got it for under $500.00 that way. Very happy with my purchase.
A:I see nothing in the manual stating that it does.
According to an article on techradar.com from November 6 of this year, "The only 4K Blu-ray players currently supporting Dolby Vision are the Oppo UDP-203, Oppo 205, and LG’s UP970."
A:My understanding is “yes”. Goggle - does Panasonic Blu Ray support Dolby vision- and you can find more info online . Good luck/enjoy hope this helps. Picture and audio on my DMP-UB 900 is stunning
A:Yes with beautiful image quality. Adjust the sharpness controls for the best image since the standard image looked a bit soft but after adjusting the image was pristine.
