Synopsis

Pandorum
Antibodies director Christian Alvart takes suspense into space with this tale of two astronauts who realize that they aren't alone as they drift into the darkest corners of our galaxy. Awakening in their hyper-sleep chamber with no memory of who they are or what their mission is, disoriented astronauts Lt. Payton (Dennis Quaid) and Corporal Bower (Ben Foster) gradually surmise that they are the only ones aboard the darkened spacecraft. But how did they get here, and what are those strange sounds coming from the other side of the ship? The only way out of their hyper-sleep chamber is a cramped air shaft, and the only one small enough to climb through it is Corporal Bower. As he shimmies inside to investigate, Lt. Payton mans the radio transmitter. But the deeper Corporal Bower ventures into the ship, the more apparent it becomes that something horrible has happened. There were 60,000 passengers onboard when the astronauts went to sleep, and now there's not a soul in sight. Before long, the two weakened and weary space travelers are fighting for their lives against a force neither can comprehend. Could it be that the survival of the entire human race rests in the hands of these two astronauts stuck on a lonely ship in deep space? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Let's face it, we are becoming jaded in the digital age, and without knowing it, we draw conclusions, from what we know and when it comes to SciFi we compare the new with the old. So, If I had to give you a comparison based on past films, I would say " Pandorum " is the film " Descent " only that instead of stone cave walls we have steel plated bays and instead of caverns we have piping systems, crawl spaces covered in high tech. Even the nemesis aliens in this film look similar to the carnivorous cave dwellers from that mentioned film. Now, this is not to say that " Pandorum " is a lesser film, it's not! It is a very well constructed, exciting foray into Space travel & the survival of the human race, who have departed earth due to circumstances caused by mans ignorance/arrogance, Problem is, while in a deep hyper sleep they have been joined by an alien race, who are bent on total consumption of humanoid flesh, luckily they aren't as intelligent as the humans or this film would have been over in 30 minutes. without giving too much away, I will state that this film is superior than most of what has been produced since " Aliens, " with sets that are probably the best I have ever seen, maybe not as expansive as the " Alien " film but I feel more authentic to what a deep space ship would look like. The acting was very good, by all the characters, with a script that kept you guessing as to what would happen next. If you have never seen this film before and know nothing of it, it is safe to say you will never guess the ending. This is definitely a SciFi movie full of action and gore, so if you are not the type to watch blood & guts steer clear of this. At the same time this is a very intelligent film, with sub-plots that keep the storyline from bogging down. Great Acting, Flowing script, Superb sets & makeup and FX are all top drawer, with set construction in my opinion surpassing " 2001 A Space Odyssey," "Alien," or "Aliens," they are just that good. (Video Quality) Shockingly Beautiful, Colors rich & Deep, Clarity that verges on lifelike. No DNR. No evident filtering of any kind. (v-9.5) (Audio Quality) - DOLBY TRUEHD - In the past I have complained about limited use of the rear sound field, this film went off on a tangent, using so many discrete noises in the rear field, I think this has to be the busiest HD soundtrack ever! Could this be considered Demo Material? Definitely! (a-10.0) Overall the extras are average (extra-5.0) but I highly recommend this disc if you are a SciFi fanatic, but not for the squeamish.

Best movie of 2009 that no one saw

You won't find a better horror/sci-fi movie released in the last year or several years, with the exception of the only other movie to do horror justice in the past decade; The Descent. This movie looks great, and it builds a very tense atmospheric environment that keeps you on the edge of your seat and afraid to keep watching. The creatures have been done to death but are nonetheless effective, and the twists throughout the movie add a psychological element to the movie that makes the ending not entirely predictable, even for a hardened movie buff like myself. This was, hands down, the best movie released in 2009 that no one bothered to see.

This movie reminded me of Event Horizon meets Alien...others said a bit of Mad Max in there too...and I guess I can see that as well...just not as much. The movie itself is a bit of a thinker, and if you go into watching it with out a huge wall of expectations you'll really enjoy it! Personally I didn't expect much out of it, the story sounded good but knowing how space movies have been lately...I was a bit skeptical. I was very surprised on the acting and story, some things jumped a round a bit to different points and weird/lightly cheesy parts...but all in all...it was worth buying on bluray and I've watched it several times since.

I liked it! Wasn't the best movie ever but was a good one. Had some original twists & turns. Overall just an enjoyable movie. One thing I found above average was the lighting. Most of this movie takes place in a dark space ship but unlike most movies that are filmed in the dark, this one surprised me with having enough lighting to allow you to see most everything that was happening.

I originally saw this movie on DVD thinking it was just another cheesy big budget sci fi flick. I was greatly mistaken. This movie must be seen for the first time on a dark night on a big screen. The beginning of this movie is much better than the end, but is still overall really good. A must see for Sci-Fi lovers. Plus it is nice to see Dennis Quaid as the bad guy once in a while.

I thought this was a great original sci-fi movie. There were a few parts that were just too predictable and I was expecting a little bit more scary alien and not something that looked like it came out of a Mad Max movie. Even still, It was a great sci-fi movie. 5 stars.

The quality was as clear as when I saw it at the theater. The menu isn't the fastest but blu-ray technology is still being smoothed out, so it's pretty good for what it is. The movie itself is fantastic; perfect lighting, great story, and very reminiscent of Alien.
