    Synopsis

    Parker
A principled thief seeks vengeance against the gang of criminals who left him for dead following a major heist as author Donald E. Westlake's pulp anti-hero returns to the screen under the assured direction of Hollywood veteran Taylor Hackford (The Devil's Advocate, Ray). When veteran thief Hurley (Nick Nolte) assembles a crackerjack crew for a big heist at the Ohio State Fair, his fiercely independent protégé Parker (Jason Statham) is the perfect man to take the lead on the job. Together with Melander (Michael Chiklis), Ross (Clifton Collins Jr.), Hardwicke (Micah Hauptman), and Carlson (Wendell Pierce), Parker successfully pulls off a daring daytime heist that nets the crew more than $1 million. But when Parker respectfully declines Melander's offer to invest their take in an ambitious diamond heist with a massive potential payday, he is unceremoniously shot and left for dead. Unfortunately for Melander and his gang, Parker is still very much alive, and he's determined to have his revenge. With the help of Hurley and Hurley's daughter Claire (Emma Booth), Parker manages to learn that the heist will take place in West Palm Beach, FL, and he travels there to pose as a wealthy Texan seeking to purchase a new home. Meanwhile, astute real-estate agent Leslie Rodgers (Jennifer Lopez) quickly sees through Parker's game and asks to get a cut of the action. Now a team, Parker and Leslie figure out that the gang is planning to hit a high-profile jewelry auction. All they have to do is wait until Melander and his men have pulled off the heist. Once the jewels are secure and the thieves are lying low at a local house, the stage will be set for Parker to take his revenge and make a small fortune in the process., Rovi

I love the Parker series. I read them in Jr and Sr High and adored them. When Mel Gibson was signed on to be Parker, I was hyped. They then changed his name, added in stupid subplots and a bunch of stuff I didn't like. I hated Payback for the most part, until I heard about the workprint version. It was Parker, with a different name. They finally released that as Parker: Straight Out Director's Cut, and all was somewhat right. We had a Parker movie. But I wanted more. Enter Jason Statham as Parker. Most people see this as yet another Transporter film, but this was now a true Parker movie. He was sincere, he was brutal, he was out to get what was owed to him, and nothing more. Being an adaptation of Flashfire didn't matter: This was Parker!!! If you are a fan at all of the Parker series, get this. It is a solid Parker adaptation through and through, English accent and all. The supporting cast is great, as is it's being true to the Parker feel as a whole. Highly recommended.

Parker exists in 29 stories written by Donald E. Westlake incase your interested. The character is pretty impressive in that he has his code and he abides by it. Statham plays him very straight (unlike Mel Gibson's take in Payback). The story sets it's self up for a big job in the beginning that falls apart after the band of thief's that Parker works with decided to give him two options after their mediocre heist. Parker being the resourceful guy he is skillfully gets back on his feet after being crossed. So the majority of the movie is nothing more than a big set up (similar to Tomas Jane's Punisher) where Parker gets help from a real state woman (Ja Lo). In the process he runs into a hitman which led to one of the better fight scenes I've seen in awhile. In the end Parker gets what he wants (mostly in the way he planed on it) all while sticking to his code.

Another typical heist crime revenge movie

This isn't a bad movie but it is a typical heist gone awry with revenge movie. Don't get me wrong, I really like Jason Statham and he does a good job here but it seems more of a "cookie cutter" style film even with Taylor Hackford at the helm. The film contains the usual story and fight sequences seen in many other Stahtam films, nothing too new here. Picture and sound quality are very good but with a minmal amount of extras. There are other Statham movies I would watch again before this one but if you're a die hard fan of his work, you might like this one too.

not fan of jlo but jason statham movies are usually entertaining so gave this move a shot...reluctantly. i have to say she wasnt bad in the movie and it was quite entertaining. of course the story is a little unbelievable but kinda par for the course for a statham movie. i always say jason statham movies definitely have a ceiling, meaning you cant expect to be awed but the floor is always solid and entertaining. when you rent or stream movies, your usually more concerned about the floor than the ceiling. didnt expect much from this movie and it was pretty good.

Seems that some big stars want to hitch their wagon to a profitable venture such as any Jason Statham movie. Here we have Jennifer Lopez doing that and when I first saw her name associated with this I knew 2-things: She would get a lot of screen time and many, many lines too. Okay, 3-three things: this won't be as good as other Jason Statham movies. I was in cringeville. And, then I watched the movie and was wrong, wrong, wrong. She did good. Who knew?

Another decent adaptation of an Don Westlake book. Unfortunately it is the 3rd so plotline a little overused. Lee Marvin in Point Blank is a grittier story and the best adaptation of the 3. Gibson's Payback is more like Point Blank with more interesting villains but marred by Gibson's moralizing and goofiness. This one is a lot of fun but Stratham's Parker is the action hero, not the amoral vengeful SOB Marvin is.

I love Jason Statham films because he can deliver the kind of action that martial arts fans like myself want. It's a great action film and Jennifer Lopez's performance was good for comedic relief. Other reviews were mostly negative only because the film really didn't adapt to the book. If you're looking for an oscar winning performance, then look elsewhere.

I'm currently on a Jason Statham kick, enjoying the fun-but-dumb premises, in the way Bruce Willis movies used to. Parker is a lesser one to be sure, and Jennifer Lopez is oddly cast as a down-on-her-luck real estate agent that never quite comes together. I'll likely ditch the physical disc in favor of the digital copy after awhile.
