Synopsis

Paul
Two average sci-fi geeks get caught up in the ultimate interplanetary adventure after picking up an extraterrestrial during a road trip to Area 51 and becoming the targets of a nationwide manhunt. Graeme (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Frost) are two British sci-fi geeks on holiday in America. After a trip to Comic-Con to meet their favorite author, Adam Shadowchild (Jeffrey Tambor), Graeme and Clive load up their RV and hit the road for a tour of some of the most famous UFO hotspots in the American Southwest. They know we're not alone in the universe, but they won't be satisfied until they get a firsthand glimpse of the famed Area 51. However, somewhere deep in the Nevada desert, the two UFO enthusiasts narrowly avoid crashing into a speeding car when they happen across a most unlikely hitchhiker. Paul (voice of Seth Rogan) is a pint-sized alien who has spent the last 60 years in Area 51. He's been cooped up in the care of the U.S. Government for far too long, and he's starting to get a little homesick. Though Graeme and Clive are more than willing to help their wisecracking new friend get back to his mother ship, Special Agent Zoil (Jason Bateman) of the FBI is closing in fast. And he's not the only one; in their race to get their new friend home, Graeme and Clive have also become unwitting kidnappers, and the enraged father of their not-so-unwilling captive, Ruth (Kristen Wiig), is determined to rescue his daughter at all costs. Sigourney Weaver, Bill Hader, Blythe Danner, and David Koechner co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This movie isn't for everyone but what movie is? In my own opinion I loved this movie. Made me laughed 'til i almost cried. I love Seth Rogen, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg. They all did a great job in the movie. I believe if you're non religious (like me. PS ironically im named Christian haha) you'll love this movie. If you are open minded religious you may like this movie. It may not have an Emmy winning plot, acting, or cinematography but thats not what it's for. It also may not have a great meaning behind it but it is a movie it is made to entertain some will be entertained some won't. I would recommend this to a friend cuz they have the same humor as me and most likely would enjoy it. As for the person disliking it for the "attack" on Christian belief, if it was any other religion im sure it would be a different review given. As for those who haven't seen it, it is against the hardcore Christian beliefs, where the Earth can only be 4000 years old and nothing else could have created it unless it be God.

Pretty hilarious buddy comedy, from the same duo (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) that starred in indie favorites like Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. A much simpler plot to follow this time around, regarding a pair of geek-inspired tourists who make the pilgrimage to America, ready to indulge in the pop cultural phenomena known as Comic Con. Along this journey however, they have planned a little UFO road trip excursion that takes them thru various points of interest including along Area 51 in Nevada. Its at this juncture where our two heroines come face to face with a misplaced extra-terrestrial visitor simply known as Paul (voiced by you know who already). In the aftermath of this encounter, a caravan full of hijinks ensue (literally!), including a preposterous amount of witty banter -- as one would come to expect of Rogan's character -- as well as various cameo appearances sprinkled throughout, in an effort to re-unite Paul back to his home planet. All this leads to a surprisingly fresh, fun-filled adventure reminiscent of a supremely nerdy yet comical version of Spielberg's E.T., albeit with distinctively less tears and affection, but with an abundance of laughter and humor in its place.

What can I write about this movie that hasn't already been written? A quick search will get you over 900 reviews elsewhere. So let's take a different approach. If you answer "yes" to one or more of the following questions, then you'll probably enjoy this movie. - Do you like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, or The World's End? (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost starred in those as well.) - Do you like Superbad, Adventureland, or Arrested Development? (Greg Mottola directed those as well.) - Do you like Seth Rogen, Jason Bateman, Bill Hader,Kristen Wiig, Jayne Lynch, David Koechner, Joe Lo Truglio, Jeffrey Tambor, or Sigourney Weaver? (I can't even list the number of films these stars have appeared in.) - Do you like sci fi movies? (Really, who doesn't like E.T.?) - Do you geek out on subtle references and inside jokes? So, did you answer "yes" to any of the questions? Or rather, did you answer "yes" to all of the questions? Yeah, I thought so. Get the movie. You won't be disappointed.

This Movie is another quirky, funny, entry in the Nick Frost / Simon Pegg stable of geeky characters that most people can relate too. It's funny how over the last thirty years people (fanboys) who secretly loved comics , the idea of aliens "we are not alone" and maybe were just pretending to be tough guys most of their lives loved pop culture and thanks to shows like Big Bang Theory" and the run of Marvel & DC action packed blockbusters have become socially acceptable to the hip crowd. Seth Rogen for some reason is funnier unseen in this flick and less annoying than any other starring role . Really this a cute, clever mini love story with a great soundtrack ! You will love it.

"Paul' seems to have flown slightly under the radar, but I consider this film about equal to 'Shawn of the Dead', 'Hot Fuzz', and 'The World's End'. Perhaps the editing and direction aren't quite as good, but the special effects are perfect and the plot is hilarious. Once again, Simon Pegg and company take a genre and hit all the important high points while subverting it simultaneously. The supporting players, especially Kristen Wiig, are perfect. It all comes to a wacky ending with more than a few surprises while incorporating some American "Apatow' humor via Seth Rogan. A personal favorite and an excellent comedy movie.

I went in to this movie with low expectations and was blown away with quality of the film. Very funny from start to finish, and you really connect with the characters in the film. It's definitely a Sci-fi nerd comedy, but if you are fans of the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost films this is definitely up there with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz! Seth Rogen is great as the alien Paul as well, as long as you aren't annoyed by his laugh! Overall I highly recommend if you are looking for a fun comedy full of laughs and Sci-Fi humor!

Let's hope all aliens aren't like Paul! Or maybe, if they were, it would make for an interesting ride for us all! This is definitely not a movie like 'E.T.', the R rating is appropriate, young kids shouldn't see this even though it's about an alien and is funny. Paul is a wisecracking, sometimes crass and innapropriate alien who with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have an interesting journey. If you like Simon, Nick, comics, UFO's and aliens, you'd probably love this movie too!

I waited for some time to enjoy this movie, the whole Idea was humorous to say the least, however to my overwhelming disappointment the majority of the production was a vehicle for unrelenting Christian bashing, and this film should be avoided by anyone of Faith. Very disappointed in the producers who had such a creative and fun adventure, only to ruin it with disrespect to the one faith that would not come after them with vengeance but instead forgive them.. I tossed out the DVD after watching.. :-(
