In this science fiction thriller, a spaceship is transporting a disparate group of people to a far-away galactic outpost called New Mecca. Mechanical failures cause the craft to crash-land on an abandoned planet that has three suns and no night. The only member of the crew to survive is junior pilot Carolyn Fry (Radha Mitchell), while the passengers who climb from the wreckage include a police officer (Cole Hauser) and the prisoner he's transporting, Riddick (Vin Diesel). As Fry and the other survivors survey the abandoned dwellings of the desert world while trying to decide what to do next, one of them is killed by a mutant creature living in an abandoned mining site. The vicious and bloodthirsty mutants, who live underground, have killed all previous inhabitants of the planet; they cannot stand sunlight, but research reveals that the planet has a total eclipse every 22 years, and the latest one is due any moment. Pitch Black was directed by David N. Twohy, who also made the sci-fi cult item, The Arrival.~Mark Deming
An interstellar cargo/passenger ship is damaged by some meteors and is forced to crash land on a barren desert-like planet that has two suns which means there is now nightfall. Our survivors come to find that some vicious predatory creatures live in strange caves in the darkness. Eventually the survivors find an abandoned scientific camp and realize too late that full eclipse is about to happen allowing the predatory creatures to come out and hunt.
Rented this way back when and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. This movie was an early role for Vin Diesel and he steals the show and cemented him as an action hero.
This 4K UHD restoration is well worth the cost if you have a UHD capable system
David Twohy's first chapter of the Riddick series arrives on 4K courtesy of Arrow Video.
A small but fantastic Sc-Fi film.

A Blu-ray disc. (Only an UHD disc is included)
I would still recommend this product, and Best Buy had the lowest price in town!!
Arrow Video knocks it outta the park yet again with another great release to add to their growing library of cult classics, and this time around it’s in the 4K UHD format. I own a lot of titles from Arrow Video’s catalog but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of their releases have this many extra features included, and that’s saying something, especially for a non limited edition release. It’s so much that the extra features have extra features, so you get a lot of content for your money, especially if you catch it at a cheap price like I did at $19.99. If you’re a fan of this film or sci-fi films in general, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this awesome 4K edition!
Arrow's first 4k didn't disappoint. The video is in Dolby Vision and this is the best Pitch Black has ever looked including it's theatrical run 20 yrs ago. This disc has both the rated and unrated editions in 4k. The Audio is only DTS 5.1 Master Audio. A DTS:X mix with been nice, but it does decode nicely to X with a receiver.
The real gem in this collection is the new special features and archival special features. This is Criterion level special features. Included is the anime movie which bridges Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick
It's not until repeat viewings that I really came to appreciate this remarkable film. Such a well made and involving piece of cinema for what was suppose to be a low budget B-movie. The Terrain, the unique cinematography makes this film a standout watch.
The 4K transfer is noticeably sharper and the colors are more natural and tight. The audio is even better. I swear it's even louder than the 1080. The low end and the dialogue are all more obvious. Replace your 1080 with this 4K transfer. You won't be disappointed
