Best aviation & flying film I've seen in years.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Films that concentrate on aviation & airplanes are rare, so it is a joy to see one that gets all the background material correct. In "Planes" the aircraft fly and manuever just as real planes would. And many of the characters are clearly patterned after real, historic aircraft. El Cupacabra is clearly a Granville Brothers Type R racer, and Franz, the flying auto, looks like the Aerocar designed and built by Moulton B. Taylor. The idea of a cropduster becoming an air racer is a classic "underdog succeeds against the odds" plot, but many great films have been made with the same storyline. I particularly enjoyed the way Dusty wins the race; it is straight out of the 1937 Thompson Trophy Race when the Folkerts SK-3 passed the Marcoux-Bromberg Special in the last fifty yards of the last lap for the closest finish in American air racing history. Anybody who enjoyed "Porco Rosso" or "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" should love "Planes." It is a fun story and a great aviation film as well.

A fun movie for all ages
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm 71 and a kid at heart. I grew up on Navy bases all over the western hemisphere - California, Washington, Tennessee, Hawaii and Guam. My dad was a Navy AD1 (under the cowling aviation mechanic). I have seen him work on almost all the WWII thru Viet Nam aircraft. I have flown on a B25 Mitchell with Collins Foundation like the one that the Hall sons rode in the bonus feature. I have built models of both the Mitchell and the P-51 Mustang. I have a part time job with the local Grand Prairie Airhogs baseball team. The P51 and the F4U (skipper) were both built in Grand Prairie (Vaught Aircraft and American). The Airhogs have a 1/2 scale flyable F4U on display. I saw the Navy Blue Angels overfly Guam in 1954 in their F9F Panthers. Everything mentioned above were either featured in the movie or the bonus feature which makes the film very personal to this 71 year old.

Enjoy the Ultimate 3-D movie experience.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dusty is a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing -- and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.

It's a movie for KIDS!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being Disney, it had excellent graphics, funny sight gags and naughty references that flew (literally at times) over the heads of the kiddies (vasectomies figure big here). If you are an adult who loves airplanes, there are cartoon versions of some real beauties especially the Gee Bee Super Sportster, a barrel-shaped monster from the 1930's, and the stolid F4U Corsair, modeled after WWII ace Ira Kepford's bird.

Kids will enjoy it, parents might not.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My child is at the age where he is starting to want to choose his own things. I had a gift card and was going to allow him to purchase one movie, and this is what he chose. He had seen it before and liked it enough to want to own it. I watched it with him when we got home and for me, once was enough. I could see why kids would enjoy it, but it doesn't have the same charm that the like-minded "Cars" has. If it is just for the kids, this movie is fine.

Fun Ride
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since buying this, it has remained a regular in our rotation. Great story and great performances by the voice actors. I still laugh at parts even after my fifteenth viewing with my 2 year old. Not sure why the film was reviewed so poorly but it goes to show that sometimes you just need to see something yourself to form your own opinion. .02
