Better than a Titan x with a fraction of the price and power consumption? Check and Check! I bought this as an upgrade from my gtx 980 and i must say this is leaps of improvement! I also use this for running my oculus and every VR experience is set to max with buttery smoothness especially playing Eve: Valkyrie. I installed this in a small form factor pc; the Asus G20aj. The founders edition GTX 1080 handles temperature well even in these tight spaces.

If you're hesitant to order this because of the price tag, just go ahead and order it. Stop questioning yourself and just do it. I've always been the type to buy the mid range cards, but I decided to splurge on the top one this time and I'm completely blown away. I have Doom maxed out and I have yet to see the frame rate drop any lower than 120 at 1080p. On average, I'm getting 175-200 fps. This thing has handled every graphics heavy game I've tested as if it were nothing. I will add, I have an older system and this card, along with the fx-8350 I picked up have really brought this system back to life. Clearly you don't need a top of the line core i7 for a superb gaming experience. I mean it would be nice, but if you're on somewhat of a budget, keep this in mind. A good GPU these days doesn't really require a super high end cpu to back it up. I tried it with my fx-4100 before installing the 8350 and I was still getting mind blowing performance out of the graphics card. I probably wouldn't have even needed the CPU upgrade. The card itself is very attractive, too, and looks great in a windowed case.

gaming, VR, AR, rendering...it does it all. definitely a must have. if you want to save a few dollars and get the 1070 and your experience won't be much "less".
