M400- Lots of Features
||Posted .GPS for outdoor running and cycling is accurate. Bluetooth works well. Polar Beat, Polar Flow, and Polar Web add to the watch and make it easy to see trends, data, etc. It can be a bit confusing at first setting everything up and understand how it all works together. But there's a lot of extra features so it's understandable. My last Polar lasted me 10years. Hope this can do the same.

Great hybrid activity tracker / fitness watch
||Posted .Tracks daily movement with extra advantage of capturing GPS/HR fitness workouts beyond cardio including strength training and yoga. Connects to Polar Flow website and mobile app which are very nice graphical summaries of your daily goals and progress. I bought it as a weight loss companion and have been pleasantly surprised how easy to use, and customizable the workout displays are. You can create a dashboard of conceivably any data you want to look at while working out. So far I have found it very easy to connect to some of my preferred 3rd party apps like myfitnesspal and training peaks. Finally a device that uses a common usb cord (Kindle/Galaxy micro usb) for syncing and charging (does sync to mobile via bluetooth as well). My only complaint is that it does not yet have tools to track treadmill distance - accelerometer doesn't track distance and currently it doesn't seem to support a footpod. I love Garmin products as well, but the Bluetooth connectivity of the Heart Rate monitor by Polar seems to be more universally compatible with the fitness machines I encounter traveling at hotels around the US which is nice. I did have an initial support issue with the HR strap and will say Polar rectified it immediately which was nice. Some final comments on the GPS, GPS accuracy seems to mirror my Garmin Forerunner. Though my workouts tend to be in open sky areas, of the few times I have tried it in a downtown big building environment or dense forest canopy I did have one workout that reported some erroneous distance and mapping, most are fine though.

Great entry sport watch
||Posted .I was looking for a sports watch with GPS, looked at the Garmin site and they were good but pricy and had a lot of functions that I don't really need or want and the ones with a reasonable price lacked the things I fund on this watch. I just love that it keeps track of my activity the whole day even when i sleep without having to put it on sleep mode, also some how it knows the difference when am sitting down or lying down and the difference between laying down and sleeping. So far no problems with the connection to the phone or synching with the, in my case Mac. It takes like 10 seconds to find GPS and once it funded it has never dropped (so far). I tried with my bike and the reading is almost as accurate as my old fashion wireless cat eye bike computer. I do wish it had a color LCD display and an icon for the battery percentage, it only has a battery icon so I have to guess and charge it when I see that it's almost empty ( the icon) aparently it would tell you if the battery is too low for the watch to be used in a work out, that has not happened to me because I try to charged as soon as I see that little icon getting too low. I usually use it on watch mode 5 days with its nights plus 3 to 4 hours on GPS mode without the need of charging so I think the battery life is quite good, I think overal is a good GPS watch for novices like me that only need to know their work out data, if you are looking for something that would tell you what your smartphone is already telling you then this is not for you. I would say check out the polar web site, get all the info you want and then buy it at Best Buy, is cheaper plus you get reward points.

Looking for in the middle between beginner and pro
||Posted .I am a fitness professional and my interest in tracking my personal progress is beyond what you find in entry level activity trackers; but, does not meet the need of what a professional athlete might want to monitor. This watch is perfect! It tracks daily activity information and alerts me when I need to move. Additionally, when I want more details from of my workout I turn on the GPS and attach the chest strap monitor to record heart rate, speed zones and elevation changes. It is also programmed with a fitness test that measures your VO2 max which helps fine tune into the details if your working out hard enough or not. The reason why I chose this model is that I find having the heart rate monitor on my wrist distracting, of course I want to know my heart rate, but the health of my resting rate is dependent upon my fit rate and it is more important to get accurate information during a workout... and wrist technology doesn't beat the accuracy of chest technology as of this review. The fact that Polar bundles the chest strap with the watch, really gives you the best of both worlds. Side note: They did just release the M 600 but I haven't checked that out 'cause I am VERY satisfied with my M400.

Great for Multi-Sport, Useful Data
||Posted .I have tried and gone through several heart rate monitors in the last 4 years. In the end, none were reliable or useful. Now I have the M400 by Polar, and I am quite impressed with the watch. It appears to be more rugged than the others, and I really like the variety of information it gives about my various workouts. I like the lap timer feature, which is perfect for workouts where I do a set, then am supposed to rest for the same amount of time before doing the next set. It is great for bike riding. The very best feature in my opinion is that the display is large and bright. With past watches, whenever I pressed the backlight button, I still needed a light nearby to see what was on the display. Not so with this one. I can easily read the display under any lighting conditions. And when I press backlight, I am pleased to easily read the data with no effort. As a bonus, the watch doubles as an activity tracker. Highly recommended. Worth the price.

Great Unit!
||Posted .I had an older Polar watch and was quite happy with it. After working on cars, etc, I did scratch up the face pretty good and was a bit difficult to read the display, but didn't really want another watch. To my surprise, my wife bought me this new Polar unit. Yea, it looked nice and all but I thought it was too fancy...but I'll try it out. This thing is way better than I thought! The display is so easy to see now and being able to set up the screens the way I want it, is awesome! very easy to get set up on the computer and then you can download it to the watch via bluetooth. I have the Polar App on my phone and when I open it up, it prompts me to sync with watch. I just push the back button on the watch and away it goes....all synced to the phone. Then the phone pushes to the website automatically, where you can then review your activities more in depth. Very pleasantly surprise how much I like this watch. It also monitors my movements throughout the day and keeps track of calories I've burned walking around the office or just sitting at work. Prompts me if I need to get up and move around too. I'm sure it's more accurate if I wore the HR strap, but it does work without it too (just no the HR stuff). The only drawback is the size. It is a little big on the wrist but I've grown to it and not as bulky as I once thought. Definitely a great unit and a great bang for the buck! Exceeded my expectations! Also, I thought it would sync with my old HR strap, but no go. It needs the newer "bluetooth" one so be sure to get the package if you have an older Polar.

Awesome and accurate
Posted .I love this device. Let's you know when you drop out your zone. Tells you what you improved at each workout. Super easy to use. Only flaw for me is I couldn't register it on my Google chromebook.

Q: QuestionIs there a polar watch available that monitors your heart rate without having to wear the chest strap? Is there one where the watch has the HR sensor?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer You're going to get a much much much more accurate reading if you choose to go with a monitor with a chest strap. I own a monitor that has the optical HR sensor and I absolutely despise it.

Q: QuestionIs the white one easy to clean?Does it stain?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I've had mine for 2 weeks now. The silicon band does not stain. I've changed the oil and transmission fluid in my car, got grease all over it, and it all just wiped right off.

Q: QuestionWhat is the range on the HRM chest strap transmitter? How far does the signal from the HRM chest strap extend when it's being used? If my wife and I were to each get one of these watches and chest straps, will the signals from the chest straps interfere with each other's watch if we're side by side in a spin class or are riding our tandem bicycle? Also, my wife has an older Polar HRM watch that is maybe 7 or more years old. Would that older chest strap work with the M400, or would we need to buy a new, M400-specific chest strap? Thanks for whatever information you can provide.
Asked by Bill in SoCal.
- A:Answer They claim the Bluetooth extends to roughly 30 feet. You can set the Bluetooth to not be visible to others, so your watches and heart rates do not interfere with each other.

Q: QuestionSwimmingWhat does the polar watch tell you while swimming? Can it tell you heart rate and calories burned? I would love to know the all the features that there are in regards to swimming. Thank you!
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The M400 does not have any swimming specific metrics. Our V800 however, which is designed for the multisport athlete, does. In addition to tracking one's heart rate and estimating calorie burn, it also recognizes the swimming stroke, the number of laps (if swimming in a pool) as well as your pace and distance. - Mike @ Polar USA

Q: QuestionDoes it work for indoor rowing?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, the M400 can be used for any activity where one wants to track their heart rate during exercise. You can create what Polar calls a 'sport profile' marked as 'rowing' and then simply disable the GPS function when indoors. It will track all your heart rate and exercise data which then can be analyzed further at our website www.flow.polar.com. Mike @ Polar USA
