Leonard Cohen's gem in the gravel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll preface this review by saying I've been a fan of Leonard Cohen for a long time, so this review reflects neither a Cohen neophyte nor an objective listener. With "Popular Problems" , Cohen continues to exhibit the poet's sensitivity and wordsmithy that we've always appreciated. Cohen's getting older, and his voice has dropped further underground - this album's generally bleak themes are a perfect fit for his smoky bluesman growls. That there's a variety of musical styles present on this album is a testament to Cohen's versatility and musical sensibility. Yes, there are the drum machines and trumpets and female background vocals, but you'll find some intriguing additions to the typical Cohen repertoire here. Still, it always goes back to his lyrics, and they are as great as we've come to expect from him. You've probably heard "Almost Like the Blues" (heck, even my 2 month old son stopped crying to listed to that when it came on the car radio - seriously), but pretty much every track is fantastic here. My only real complaint: at 36 minutes, I just wish it were longer...

80 and still relevant
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Leonard Cohen CD is a beautiful and very relevant release from an 80 year-old man. The man can still write songs that will break your heart. Every song on this CD is perfect but the best one has to be Did I Ever Love You. The first time this song came on, and the chorus swells, tears just streamed down my face. Just a perfect piece of music. Another beautiful work of art from a poetic genius.

Not Your Mama's Leonard Cohen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. His voice is so much better than B Dylan that Dylan dissed him. Well Cohen remains his own poet and his own voice. The songs have a stronger blues influences than his other work, and he does it in his own style. At my advanced age how can I not like the opening track? Kick back and take it in with lots of volume. Don't rush it.

My mom loved this!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this for my mom as a gift and she really enjoyed it. Cohen's voice has been drifting from her office for days. If you know a fan of his, they will likely appreciate this new album too. Enjoy and happy listening!

Quality music for adults
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent sound quality with good writing and musical arrangements. The backup singers add much depth to the arrangements and the singing by Leonard is excellent although I realize his voice may not be to everyone's liking.

Good album
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It seems to me like an extension of Old Ideas. He's a bit more gravelly (if that's possible). I think the best time to listen to Mr. Cohen is at night when there is little else going on. You sure can't drive to his stuff!

Typical great Cohen music.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some of these songs lean toward that bluesy feel. He always puts so much into his music. If you like Leonard Cohen, you will surely like this album.

Classic Cohen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most performers have retired by age 80. This album is all new and his voice has only improved. The backup singers are perfect.
