PREY is like a fine scotch
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PREY is a game that needs to be slowly sipped and savored. If you are looking for an action shooter, you will be highly disappointed. At it's core it is an exploration game that is incredibly immersive and atmospheric. The game can be as short or as long as you want it to be. I am on my first play through and am 45 hours in. With that said, I have gone through each room, area, etc. with a fine tooth comb. There are many things to find or not. That is your personal choice. I plan on finding everything (including all 250+ crew members). My estimation for completion will definitely be over 100 hours. If you liked BIOSHOCK, you will like PREY. Be forewarned that this game is an ode to the old school gamer who enjoys Dead Space, System Shock and Half Life. It is also extremely challenging and punishing out of the gates. Do not give up and have patience and you will find that the game is extremely rewarding and well put together. The setting (maps & levels) are very unique in the sense that it is an open world with free forming characteristics. The game can be played with many different styles and strategies. How you upgrade your characters and items will largely depend on the style in which you like to play. Make no mistake. This game is about strengths and weaknesses. Your job is to figure out where you stand. Once again, if you are looking for a shooter in the vein of DOOM, WOLFENSTEIN, COD or DESTINY --- THIS IS NOT THE CUP OF TEA THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. However, if you like to approach things intellectually, strategically with action to drive the game --- THEN THIS IS FOR YOU. There are puzzles, an intriguing story and sense of accomplishment from making your way through that space station in an environment that has left you for dead. No hand holding and no linear way to complete the game. Everyone will have an experience that is different or at the least, varied. So far, I am thoroughly enjoying myself on TALOS I and find this to be one of the best games of the year.

Sounds great, looks great, feels okay.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a fan of other Bethesda and Arkane games, this game should be for me. I really love the atmosphere, the characters and the entire concept of the plot. Unfortunately it falls apart in execution. I wish the gameplay felt a little less stiff. The exploration and the investigation of what happens to this mysterious space station infected with aliens is awesome, but when it comes time to fight said aliens, the game feels like it shoots itself in the foot. I'd recommend this game to people who like exploratory games like Dishonored, Hitman, Fallout, or Deus Ex. It's probably not for people outside of that genre though.

So fresh
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The thing I appreciate the most from Prey is that it is something different, which is saying a lot from a genre that seems to just pump out sequel after sequel. Prey differs vastly from other FPS experiences, focusing less on the combat (which does have its drawbacks) and focusing more on the atmosphere and story. This game reminds me of a crossbreed between Half-Life and Bioshock, but never feels like it is a carbon copy of either. Give the demo a whirl if you want a taste of what to expect, but never assume the experience stays the same, which is what makes Prey so magnificent. Only drawback is the combat isn’t as thrilling as the rest of the game.

Awesome sci-fi sim
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Level design is top notch. The space station is very detailed and super fun to explore. Gameplay is also top notch. You can level up you character to fit your playstyle. I have played this game multiple times using different character builds. I love that you can have fun playing it like a shooter on one playthru, then you can change it up and do a stealth or melee or supernatural powers and many more different types of gameplay play thrus. Also, you can save anywhere at anytime and you get ten or more save slots to mess around with. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys exploration type gameplay and likes to experiment with different builds. Prey provides you with the playground to do that. The cons to the game are the pacing. In the beginning you will be able to leisurely explore, but as you advance the storyline you will start to be overwhelmed by the enemies, until by the end of the game you are put under a time deadline and must rush through the last mission. This con is slightly annoying if you like to go slow/expore like I do. There is however one big con in this game = loading times. They are very very long. This isn't a problem in the first half of the game as you are exploring big areas and there aren't as many loading screens. But the end of the game requires you to run from area to area and that means you run through a whole series of super long loading screens. This may be a deal breaker for some people. I love this game and I find the ending loading screen rush to be highly annoying. But since the rest of the game is awesome, I forgive it for its super long loading screen.

Overall an Excellent Game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The gameplay mechanics and story are fantastic. The ending of the story is a bit lack-luster, but overall, if you enjoy story-rich games with a good number of creative shooter aspects (it's basically Bioshock in space (but ya know, better graphics than System Shock)), you'll definitively enjoy this game.

Stick with it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I rage quit this game like 3 times in the beginning. It's tough because you are weak and the enemies are very difficult. I was also doing a bunch of side quests to boost up the character. However, if you stick with the main story line first for a while, you'll gain access to great abilities that make survival MUCH more bearable and actually tells a very intriguing story. I really like it because it gets under your skin. Well worth getting if you have a bit of patience in the beginning and expect to die a bunch of times. But use your smarts and you'll be fine. Ultimately, it's a very fun game. I took a star off because the game doesn't really tell you what to do or how anything works, which can be frustrating for the more casual gamer. If you invest a little time and thought, though, it's very rewarding.

Very good game.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game reminds me of Half-life with a touch of Bioshock. The action is good and the story is compelling. Graphics are good, but not amazing. No real 4K patch support for PS PRO yet, but here's hoping.
