    Synopsis

    Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen's classic novel is brought to the screen once again in this intelligent and witty romantic drama. Elizabeth Bennett (Jennifer Ehle) is one of five sisters living on a British country estate in the 1800s. At a time and place in which matrimony is considered a woman's logical goal in life, Elizabeth displays a cautious reluctance toward marriage -- so when a wealthy young man, Fitzwilliam Darcy (Colin Firth) expresses an interest in courting her, she isn't so sure she cares for him. Elizabeth and Darcy discover that they have a great deal to learn about each other -- and no small amount to overcome in their minds -- if they are to find happiness together. Pride and Prejudice was produced as a five hour mini-series by the BBC and was first shown in the U.S. on the A&E cable network. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This version of P & P was first produced in 1995 as six one-hour long installments and it has been previously released on VHS and DVD. The Blu-ray version went back to the original negatives and the detail in the video is remarkable (so much better than you could ever imagine if you have seen either of the previous releases). If you like this production the Blu-ray version is well worth getting. I would have liked it more if they had not retained the six 'episodes' format and had made it more continuous. It would have been possible to just have a single break between the two discs. Whenever a book is adapted for a movie something in the book is inevitably lost. There are generally two approaches that can be followed - either try to be as close as possible to the book or to just use the story in the book as a basis for a somewhat new creation. I have seen four filmed versions of P & P and I find none of them to be completely satisfactory to me (I am looking for closeness to the book). This version, being the longest, has the best chance to approach the book. The acting and filming are generally good and a few of the extras are interesting - but self-congratulary. The are just a few small artifacts resulting from generating the high resolution images from the original negatives but these are very minor and of no consequence.

IF I WERE TO NAME ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF OUR TIME I WOULD WITHOUT A DOUBT NAME THIS ONE. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE WITH JENNIFER ENLE AND COLIN FIRTH.... THEIR ACTING IS SUPERIOR AND SPOT ON TO THE BOOK. THE LANGUAGE ENTHRALL'S YOU INTO THE BEAUTIFUL WORLD OF JANE AUSTEN. THE COSTUMES ARE BEAUTIFUL. THE SCENERY TAKES YOUR BREATH AWAY. THE VERY FIRST SCENE WERE YOU SEE MR.DARCY AND BINGLEY FOR THE FIRST TIME GIVES YOU A TASTE OF THE SUPERB ACTING TO COME. EVERYTIME I READ THE BOOK I IMAGINE THESE ACTORS. THEY ARE THEIR CHARACTERS. FIVE STARS ARE NOT ENOUGH FOR THIS MOVIE!

This A and E version of Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite video version hands down. I loved it so much that I would be extremely careful in loaning my copy out to people. The last person I loaned it to has not returned my copy so I went to the expense of purchasing a second copy. The crew that made this took extra trouble to ensure that everything was period appropriate; down to clothes, removing power-lines when they couldn't be avoided... The actors speak in British accent (they are for the most part British) and stay in character throughout this wonderful piece.

      The Consummate Mr. Darcy

This movie is by far one of the best cinematic interpretations of classic literature to grace the shelves. The costumes, setting and characters blend to create a truly entertaining and moving experience. I have two sons, 17 and 10, who love to watch this movie with me every school break. It's a tradition in our house and we can't start it without finishing it. It gives today's world keen insight into a time when men were gentlemen and ladies were virtuous and modest despite their savage passions.

This blu-ray is a huge improvement over the old dvd set that I have. I was disappointed that the picture is very grainy in places however and doesn't fit my definition of blu-ray quality. I still would have bought though as like I said it is very improved from the dvd which was very bad quality. The first blu-ray I received was defective, but BestBuy was great about the replacement. Great service. This is the best version of P&P in my opinion, and the extra features are great.

This is overall a great upgrade over the DVD version... the film has been remastered and the details are much clearer and the colors brighter on this version. I also love the new documentaries on here about the making of this masterpiece. However I do miss the making of documentary that was on the previous DVD version. No matter, this is THE definitive Pride & Prejudice, done faithfully and well to the original masterpiece by Jane Austen! Huzzah!

      Best Love Story EVER

This is one of the best love stories ever. If you are undecided because of content, don't be. This is totally worth the time. It is completely true to the novel it's based on. It was first a mini-series, so it is a little long, about 5 hours. But, even without the modern explosives and all that, it's a thrilling movie of emotions. I just love it. And for around $20, it's a really good deal.

This is one of the best loved books of all time and now it is in movie form. I throughly enjoy watching this movie. This movie has no questionable scences and is family friendly. This movie doesn't have any questionable language as most movies now a days. I highly recommend you purchase this movie. It is a movie that you can watch over and over.
