A good controller with a few small flaws
||Posted .I am mostly satisfied with the Wii U Pro Controller. I got it for a great sale price, so I can't complain too much. PROS: - I like the feeling when each button is depressed. I expect no less from a first-party controller build. I think Nintendo has the best D-pad out of any other controller. - The controller feels nice in my hands. I can easily reach each button. - The battery life of the controller is very good, and the lithium-ion battery is rechargeable. The controller charges using a standard mini-USB, like Sony's DualShock 3 controller, rather than a proprietary port. You can use another mini USB to standard USB cable in place of the one included in the package if you wish, but the included USB cable is very nice and quite long. - The Wii U Pro Controller works in tandem with the Gamepad. You can control a single-player game with the Gamepad or turn on the Pro Controller and use it as Player 1 while using the Gamepad to manage inventory, interact with Miiverse, or view a map. Some games support four controllers with the Gamepad allowing a fifth player to interact as well. - The Wii U Pro Controller is often listed for sale at a much lower price than competitor's first-party controllers. CONS: - I would much prefer a matte finish to a glossy finish. - The right analog stick is located symmetrically to the left analog stick. When placing my hands on the buttons, I have sometimes pressed X (top button) while attempting to press Y (left button) because I am used to button locations on other controllers. It also seems like a little more effort to move my fingers from the ZL or ZR triggers to the L or R buttons than with other controllers. - The ZL and ZR triggers are digital. This doesn't allow for varying levels of button depression. So far, this has not been a problem for me at all. If I played racing games where I might want varying degrees of acceleration, this may be a more prominent issue. - It is possible this controller may not work with every game you might want to use it for. It did not work with New Super Mario Bros U out of the box, but that has been fixed through a title update. It does work with all Wii U Virtual Console titles and some Wii U eShop titles, but it is not backwards compatible with Wii Mode. It does not work with Nintendo Land or ZombiU's single-player campaign due to the design of each game; they were intended to be played using the Gamepad. Be sure to check controller compatibility with any game you might want to use this controller for. Overall, I have a favorable opinion of the controller and plan on purchasing a few more before Super Smash Bros is released for Wii U. I believe that game will control much more naturally with the Pro Controller, and it is my preferred method for playing compatible Wii U games and Virtual Console titles when not utilizing off-screen play on the Gamepad. 4 stars out of 5.

works just like you would expect a controller
||Posted .Awesome that they made this but barely any functionality with it. I only have 2 games. Zombieu and lego city. Lego city this controller cant be used and zombiu only can be used on multiplayer. The wii u gamepad can be annoying sometimes so I wish I could use this controller more often

Much nicer than the traditional Wii controller.
||Posted .This controller is a nice addition to the Wii product line. Traditional gameplay seems more natural with this controller than with the standard Wii remote and nunchuck. The controller fits nicely in an adults hand making it a very comfortable controller to use. The battery life is very impressive 80-90 hours. The charging cable is extremely long, so you won't have to sit on top of the tv or find a wall charger to play while charging. (big plus) This controller does not work with games that require the "Classic Wii" controller, but maybe a firmware update in the near future will fix this. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Thumb Contortionist
||Posted .This is Nintendo's answer to the standard dual-stick controller included with most consoles today, the outlier being Nintendo itself, who included the Wii U Game Pad instead. The Game Pad is technically able to do everything a traditional controller can do, but when playing games that don't need a touch screen, the Pro Controller is the better option. After all, if your Wii U Game Pad breaks, you can't just buy another one. The Pro Controller has several advantages over the Wii U Game Pad. First of all, it's smaller and lighter, which should help for longer sessions. Game sessions can actually last quite a while too, since the battery life on the Pro Controller is at least 50 hours. Even if the battery does die out and you have to plug it in, the cable included with the controller is long enough to let you sit where you usually do. The controller seems plenty sturdy as well, so I imagine it should last a while. Unfortunately, the Pro Controller's button placement takes a lot of getting used to. The buttons and analog stick on the right side are switched on the controller compared to most others. This means that your thumb naturally rests on the right analog stick and you have to move your thumb down to reach the buttons. Even then, I generally only reach the top two buttons comfortably. The bottom two I have to stretch to reach. All in all, I wish the buttons and stick placements had been left alone. Lastly, the triggers are not analog, which means in a racing game, the triggers can't tell the game to apply just a little gas. It's all or nothing. This is likely due to Nintendo's decision to make the Wii U Game Pad's triggers digital only first, and this has been carried over for consistency's sake. In summary, this is not a bad controller. It's generally comfortable, especially for games that use both sticks, and it has great battery life. It's certainly preferable to the Wii U Game Pad when a touch screen isn't required. One other quick note: Please be aware that this controller only works in games that support it, and support is unfortunately spotty. Nintendo's insistence of adding motion controls to games that generally don't need any results in many games that could have easily been compatible but aren't, because the Pro Controller does not feature any sort of motion control whatsoever. On the plus side, Nintendo has shown they can patch previously unsupported games to allow the controller to be used, with certain buttons replacing motions when those motions are basic enough. New Super Mario Bros U is one example. Oh, and this controller will absolutely not work with Wii software and never will, so don't get rid of that Classic Controller just yet.

THE controller for Wii U
Posted .This is the controller NINTENDO has needed for so long! Size, feel, weight, layout, buttons are excellent on this controller. The right joystick takes all but 5 minutes to get used to. Controller includes joystick button clicks. Something I wanted from the Classic controller. Very good build quality. 80+ hours on a full charge! I already own 3 of these controllers. And Plan on buying a fourth for my collection. Only negative is the compatibility with some games. People do need to remember that launch titles were designed probably before the company's knew about this controller. I would almost bet all games going forward will support it. This is a step in the right direction with nintendo. Keeping the wii remotes, but moving back to controller based games.

Nice controller for a console that deserved better
||Posted .The Wii U Pro Controller is one of the best Nintendo made controllers in recent times. Its sleek design makes it comfortable to hold and easy to access buttons. Not only is its design far superior to the classic controller of the original Wii where it's much easier to hold and not as wide, but Nintendo finally made this one connectable to the Wii U's charging port so you no longer play games with a controller attached at the bottom of a Wii Remote, something I always despised and thought was extremely stupid. I only wish Nintendo gave its players options to use this pad in every game on the Wii U. Unfortunately it wasn't usable on a lot of games that should have allowed it, but I don't blame the controller for that. This is a must have for anyone who likes to bypass the motion or tablet controls gimmicks.
