  • Q: What is the maximum gb of memory this model will hold? I will need memory boosted to 16GB  (2 Answers)

    By rowhite

    • Best answer32GB, see OWC for the kit, tools are supplied, memory is installed in pairs. For 16GB you will need two 8GB RAM modules. If you do it, may as well replace the HDD with an SDD hard drive. OWC has a very good video on how to tear apart the iMac and install these parts. ;-)

  • Q: What is a Mac 10 and how does it work? Where is the memory and programs stored?  (1 Answer)

    By Apple

    • AThere is no Mac 10 that I know about. Rather, the MacBook Pro, IMac, and Mac Mini all run Mac’s Operating System (OS) Mojave (if current). In addition to my iMac, I also own a Mac Mini and an iMac 21.5” with the current version 10 (actually 10.14.3, I think). Memory (which is referred to as Memory when you click on the Apple in the upper left-hand corner of the screen (eve of a display unit) and choose “About This Mac.” Each one of mine is an i7 chip with only 8 GB of Memory, which is operating memory where the program actually runs (or programs are running). When you save data files or other files, they are stored on an HD or hard disk, which will run from 500 GB to double that or more; however, solid state drives are faster and less complicated, so you might choose 500 GB of Solid State Hard Drive over 1 terrabite or 1,000 GB of storage. I chose a less expensive 500 GB because I also store a lot of stuff “in the cloud,” which (in my case) means I upload to Apple’s iCloud Drive so that I can work on files on any of my 3 computers easily. ASK THE SALES STAFF AT BEST BUY TO SHOW YOU WHAT I AM SAYING! You can also sign up to take a tutorial class at a local Apple Store if one is near you.

    • AI had the same model and added 8gbs of ram and it runs better than this one. I actually still have it setup and use it for heavier work. It was fairly cheap. I think I spent less that $200

  • Q: Can more memory be added to this mac?  (2 Answers)

    By Helen

    • AI know my son-in-law upgraded his by purchasing chips online, which came with instructions on just how to proceed. For what I do (no complicated video editing and no gaming), I found the memory installed to be very efficient. I am not a computer geek, but I think there are two additional slots. If this already has 4 2-GB Ram modules, then you might have to replace at least w of the 4, because they may have to be in balance. I would recommend you ask the local store or Apple before you buy. It is not all that expensive since chip prices have come down. If you want additional Hard Drive space, then I would just purchse a solid state unit for photo files or video games. Again, I would ask to make sure which of the large capacity external drives is compatible. Storage is very inexpensive.

  • Q: I can put more System Memory (RAM) to this computer 16GB?  (1 Answer)

    By BETTY

    • AThe best way to get the actual manufacture date is to get it from the sales staff (in writing); however, if you already have the computer, just click on the Apple in the upper left-hand corner of the home page (next to “Safari” on my own screen. Then, you will get a drop down list, from which you should choose “About This Computer.” My old MacBook Pro lists the following: MacOS Mojave Version 10.14.3 MacBook Pro (13-inch), Mid 2012). [THIS IS WHEN IT WAS MANUFACTURED! I purchased it in 2013.] Memory 8 GB 1i600 MHz DDR3. [Again, this is MY OWN OLD LAPTOP, but it is only now beginning to slow; yet, it works well for sitting in front of my TV.] ...... (2 more lines of Startup Disk and Graphics, followed by the serial number of my own computer. Good luck!
