The series 3 has a GPS or a GPS with cellular option. If you get the GPS option (without cellular) you cannot make phone calls with your watch separately from your phone.

I believe you must get the watch with cellular capability, not gps only.

Only the LTE+GPS watch will do this independently, the GPS watch has to have your iphone nearby.

The new watches which is a 3 you can leave your phone at home and go maybe to the gym and it will still work. But with the 2 you much be close to your phone at all times
