OK...finally figured it out. Turns out that Microsoft no longer installs the required software/app that enables the DVD player installed as part of the laptop to actually play a DVD. You need to go the Windows Settings section and click on the Apps icon. Do a search for "DVD Player" and you'll get about 30 matches. There are some free ones but they don't rate very highly; including Microsoft's own app. I wound up purchasing the highest rated DVD Player app I could find. It was about $15.00 so consider what I paid for the laptop, $15.00 more didn't seem so bad. Keep in mind however that the DVD player that comes with this laptop, is NOT a BluRay player so once you install the app of your choice, make sure to text it out with a Non-BluRay DVD. Mine now works. Hope this helps.
