A:AnswerThe device has a 5 ATM water rating. The device is suitable for: Splashes, Rain or Snow, Showering, Swimming, Diving into water or Snorkeling. It is not suitable for: Scuba diving and High-speed watersports.

A:AnswerIt will work independently of a smart phone, but will not sync to garmin connect/web account till you are near smart phone with the Garmin Connect app and a active WiFi signal. Other then that it operates just like a watch.
A:AnswerThe device tracks your steps anytime you're walking unless you're holding on to something and your arm isn't moving. It also reads all day heart rate if the Optical Heart Rate is turn on.

A:AnswerThis does have an “always on” display. However, the backlight does not stay on all the time. To be able to see it in the dark or low light conditions you will have to press the button to turn on the backlight. I am not familiar with the pebble for comparison.

A:AnswerThere is not a way to continually track someone wearing the Forerunner 35. Garmin Connect Mobile has a feature called LiveTrack which would allow someone to track an activity in real time. This feature would allow you to view the location of your son if he is connected with his phone and using the LiveTrack feature. A:AnswerThe Forerunner 35 is not designed to track specific swimming metrics such as: pace, distance, or stroke count. If you need specific swimming metrics we would not recommend the Forerunner 35.
A:AnswerYou may accept or decline calls but you cannot talk to the caller from the watch, you will need your phone to speak to them. You can receive messages on the watch but will need to respond to them from the phone.
