Yes. The built in GPS will save your run and will sync with your phone once they pair again. I would like to also mention that I had an instance that GPS took a while to acquire satellite signal and the distance I ran signal-less did not count even though the time running did. The next day I found that GPS signal locked much faster when my phone was next to me but I cannot confirm that is why it did. Hope that helps.
