        Answer

Hi bayside5353-this is Sue from GE Appliances. The racks are constructed of high quality steel wire coated with smooth, durable, plastic, that is tough yet resilient to protect your dishes and roll smoothly on an easy-glide roller system. Also, odors associated with new appliances are normal. The processes used during manufacturing often may leave a "newness" odor that may not dissipate until after several washing cycles. You can alleviate this condition by running the dishwasher through several cycles using detergent. Thanks for checking with us!

The washing arms are in the bottom which makes it good so you can put tall items in without worry of a arm hitting them.
