“is the disc version compatible with the basic xbox one or only x/s because we bout it for xbox one and the disc wont read have returned it got a new copy same thing it says xbox one on the cover and the disc but our system will not read it”

It may be an issue with the optical hard drive. I just got my Xbox one copy two days ago and it works on my Xbox one. I suggest finding a decent repair shop nearby and asking if they are able to replace the internal hard drive or the optical drive because that may be your issue.
