Use the hdmi cord it comes with, plug it in the back of the monitor and then into your laptop. Afterwards go into your settings in display and click on where it says use as a second display.

We bought 2 of these and my wife and I both have Laptops also. I don't know how the FreeSync works but it is just like looking at your laptop except in expanded view. It is a second screen. As a matter of fact I usually just look at the Monitor and move the mouse looking at it, not the Laptop screen. Just bear in mind it doesn't have speakers. Also, you may have to format your Laptop as we did, when plugged in at first we didn't have sound from the Laptop, but an easy fix. All and all, very satisfied with them.
