Yes, put legal size paper in document feeder, not the regular paper tray.

Thank you for asking. The LaserJet Pro M283fdw will scan legal size but automatic two-sided scanning is not supported. You may install the HP Full Feature Software and select to manually scan both sides using the HP Scan software, then you will be guided to reload the other side of the original. For automatic 2-sided scanning of legal documents, see the LaserJet Pro M479fdw.
