As with every Windows laptop, it is up to the consumer whether they want anti-virus and which one they want to use. It's not going to spontaneously combust because you don't have anti-virus running, but you run the risk of getting a virus. Although Windows 10 does have a decent one built in.

You can install your choice of any other virus protection you choose. Be sure to turn off Windows Defender and uninstall any trial virus protection software on the device. You should only have one virus protection software suite operating on your system.
