Can the ram be changed null

My research indicates that the internals consist of one 8GB soldered RAM and another open slot which OFFICIALLY holds a maximum of another 8GB, thus the 16GB total stated. However, others have said they were able to replace the non-soldered SODIMM with a 32GB stick, which would give you 40GB total.
