      Question Concerning Depth   (4 Answers)

The place for my refrigerator is tight on space. The manual indicates that 2" in the back is needed for air circulation: "Too small of a distance from adjacent items may result in lower freezing capability and increased electricity charges." In the Specs it states "Installation Clearances" of Sides 1/8", Top 1", Back 1" . Is the 2 inches ideal for Energy Efficiency and the 1 inch the Minimum Required? I have 1/8 of an inch on the sides. The top has 8 inches of clearance. Can I get away with 1 inch in the back? Would it help to remove some of my drywall or drill holes behind the refrigerator for extra ventilation? I don't care what the back wall looks like since it is not visible.

        Answer

I think the 1" is the minimum required. I would hesitate to put this with just 1/8" on the sides, although the side clearance might just be to help with installation, not really required for ventilation. I would not remove drywall to get additional clearance - the most you are going to get is about 1/2". Drilling holes isn't going to help either - you need space for hot air to escape, so holes in the drywall aren't going to help. The additional vertical clearance may compensate for the lack of rear clearance, but you would need to consult with someone more knowledgeable to be sure. I would check with LG to see if the clearances are enough and more importantly if it will affect the warranty in any way. One reason for getting this fridge is it has a 10 year compressor warranty.

Where do you recommending storing raw meet in the refrigerator so there is no cross contamination? (Not in the freezer)   (2 Answers)

In looking at the setup and pictures, I couldn't determine the best place to place raw meat in the refrigerator. We've always put it in the lowest compartment, but on this model that is the shallow drawer at the bottom. Where do you suggest placing the meat to avoid cross contamination? NOTE: I am not referring to storing this in the freezer section.

            Answer

Most food spoilage bacteria grow slowly if at all between 34°F and 40°F so it is imperative that you keep the temperature in the LG - 24.7 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Stainless/Stainless look, Model # LFX25974SB at that temperature. That means that if you are going to store raw meat in the refrigerator section, you need to keep it away from vegetables and salads and you should not open the refrigerator frequently, especially on warm humid days because this raises the temperature of the refrigerator. Uncooked, ground meat and poultry should be kept in the refrigerator only one or two days before cooking or freezing and raw meat, poultry and seafood should be stored on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator so juices don’t drip onto other foods and cause cross-contamination. The Glide 'N' Serve drawer provides storage space that keeps the compartment at a different temperature than the refrigerator and is recommended in the owner's manual as being a convenient place to store sandwiches or meat to be cooked and happens to be the lowest compartment in the refrigerator section. You should also make sure that you place leafy vegetables and vegetables with skins such as carrots and peppers in plastic bags or rigid plastic containers with tight-fitting lids...^IFV

I use antibacterial wipes on all my appliances. Gave up on fingerprint protection. Can't keep up with those. They makevstainless steel wipes but they are pricey and don't know if they actually "clean" or just pretty.

I've had no problem with ice machine yet. I read in the manual this is sometimes a problem when ice dispenser is set for crushed ice. Mine is set for cubes.
