Once the maker has been running long enough, the balls are about 2" in diameter. It only makes three a day because making proper craft ice is not a quick process, you freeze a little water at a time. Kind of like making an ice rink. Even though the machine does it- the process is still conceptually the same.
The book says it makes 3 balls of ice every 24-48 hours. Ours only dropped its first 3 balls a few minutes ago (48 hours installed). They were 2 inches in diameter. Why, I don't know. If it says in the instruction book, I haven't seen it.
I have not looked at the ice tray, but I assume there are only 3 spots in it. It takes a long time to freeze a solid ball of ice. If drinking a cocktail, one would only need one ball of ice per drink.
