Yes. Microsoft wireless mouses use up battery very slowly so it's important that you use Alkaline AA batteries (non rechargeable) in single-battery models. The difference is NiMH batteries run on 1.2V and Alkaline run on 1.5V. Most rechargables discharge at a constant rate even when not in use so the usable voltage will be less...shortening your transmit range and causing errors and erratic behavior. I normally get 6-12 mo of time between changes.
