Hi Sam, I appreciate your interest in one of our phones. The Moto X4 launched on Nougat and received an upgrade to Oreo. The upgrade to Pie will be its second upgrade. -Jess
(Read answer by Motorola Customer Care 7.) + This Moto X4 Android One smartphone qualifies for up to Android 9 Pie. Unlikely to get Android Q, don't count on it. The end of life for Android updates from Google is normally from the device release date (for retail sale), not the purchase date. This device model was released in 2017, so end of life is this year 2019 (I don't know exactly). A newer model released later or more recently will get updates later, so more likely to get Android Q. Google Pixel phones are supposed to get 3 years of Android updates (& other phone models from Google Store or Fi?).
