Hello, So the nest outdoor camera is powered by plugging into an outlet. It comes with a basic cord where you plug one end into the camera, and plug the other end into an outlet. Thankfully, it also comes with an extension cord that increases the length of the wire if your outlet is far away. It also comes with wall clips so that your wire does not hang loosely. There is nothing else needed to wire it in. All you need is an outlet, the wire, the wall clips, an IOS or android device, and a good internet connection. Let me know if this helped!

That is correct, they can be unplugged. We drilled a two holes into our garage, one for the front of the garage and one for the front entry of the house, ran the cords into the garage to plug them in on the inside, then sealed the holes around the cord.

How many Nest out door cameras can you hook up to your router? Is there a limit of cameras on the plan?   (4 Answers)

          Answer

It depends on your internet speed coming to the house, the router you have, and how strong the signal is to the cameras. If you have an N-Router, probably 1 or 2 at most if currently you have less than 6 devices on the router. If you have an AC1900 Router, you could probably connect up to 10 Cameras. If you have a weak signal to where the cameras are going to be, you are going to have a hard to loading the camera, and when it detects motion, it's going to take longer to notify you, and longer for it to actually start recording. It might record in 720 or lower video quality if it's a slow connection. I would download a speedtest app on your phone. Go by the place where you would want to install the camera, and run a speed test, you should have atleast 10 - 20Mbps download, and a minimum of 2Mbps upload. (Ideally 10Mbps, but the higher than upload, the better).

Do these cameras have to be connected to the same WIFI network? For example, I wanted to place one at my home and one at my place of business, would this be possible? Both have wifi networks and outlets.   (5 Answers)

I have two of these at home and one at my shop. As long as you do the setup under the same nest account you will see all three cameras on the nest app simultaneously. The wifi network doesn't matter. It's awesome I love it.

Yes, it needs power. The only 2 outdoor camera's Best Buy carries that's truly wireless is the Ring system, and the Arlo.

                Answer

Internet speed won't be as much of a constraint for audio, but video is 1080p so I would probably recommend having a minimum of 10Mbps download, and 4Mbps upload. Along with that, make sure the signal to the camera is strong. An N-Router or a weak WiFi signal will cause a lot of issues with loading the camera, or having It record if there is sound or motion detected will take longer.

My outside camera just seems to pick up noise. When some one comes to the front porch without making any noise (like UPS delivery) it does not pick it up yet when you open the door it does? Is this camera just sound and not motion activated?   (7 Answers)

I have several of these cameras at my house....both inside and outside. The slightest movement triggers an activity alert. It is definitely motion activated.
