Is this router overkill? Most of the technology hasn't caught up with its specs. One example is 802.11ad not many if any electronics have that capability! By the time it catches up ther will be a new and better router out with way ahead futureproof specs!   (5 Answers)

        Answer

Yes. It's overkill. Nothing supports this yet and the range is nothing to be impressed about with the AD band. This is only worth purchasing if you want to Future Proof. Other than that, Get an AC 5300. Way better Coverage and Reliability.

Where does the Plex server get its data? I assume from an external hard drive? Can I connect 2 8TB drives to this router? How do I get the files on the drive? Does it work as a NAS? Can I store other data files on the hard drives like text documents?   (5 Answers)

          Answer

The best way is to store your media files on a NAS drive attached to the router itself, you could also connect USB drives to the router - but in my experience the performance in transferring large media is no where near as fast as a NAS drive. With a NAS drive all computers on the network can access the drive to add more media to the Plex library when needed.

            Answer

The Nighthawk X10-AD7200 Smart WiFi Router (R9000) is strictly a high-powered router, It does not contain a modem, so you would still need to have one to connect your router to your Internet Service Provider.

So I bought the ac1900 & it says wifi speeds up to 1900mbps yet only a few internet providers have GB speeds, so I was wondering how exactly this is done; do they just boost the signal from modem or is it just the way it spreads the signal for better use?   (1 Answer)

The 1900 Mbps is a combined speed rating across both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
