No...if you want to brew 4 cups only you should only fill to 4 cup level

The directions say to only pour in the amount you want to brew. I never make less than a full pot, so I havent tried. But I can't imagine it would continue to brew if you did fill the tank and hit the 1-4 cup brew button.
