Well, if you have Alexa, you can turn your system on and off verbally... Alexa, turn of "my bedroom. If you just have Hue, you can turn lights off and on with your cell.
When I first purchased my first starter kit I used them only in my living area. I paired them to the bridge after downloading the app top my phone. Then I p[laced them all around my living room so I could adjust the brightness of the room without having to rewire a new dimmer switch. This also lets you place them into lights that you can not dim so it saves you the expense of buying new light fixtures. After that I began buying more bulbs to add to the bridge to have at least one dimmable bulb in each room, if for nothing else to be able to use them as night lights. You may then add on motion sensors to turn the lights on and off as you enter or leave the rooms. And there are many other ways to integrate them into your everyday living. The only thing that controls it is your imagination. I also use them with security cameras so that when the cameras detect motion they turn the lights on.
I would recommend:
Each bulb can be individually controlled from your smartphone (iPhone or Android) as well as with the Amazon Echo (Alexa) or Google Home. The Echo and Google Home are convenient because you can just talk telling them to turn lights on/off and even dim them while at home. Using Siri or Google Assistant on your smartphone can enable you to remotely control the lights. You can also set up routines such as turn on/off your lights at certain times and even bay these times to give the appearance you're home even when you're not. There's a ton of videos on YouTube showing how they work. If you're interested in getting started, is suggest you get a starter kit. They include the hub and some bulbs for a much better price than buying them individually. You'll need one hub as it's the interface between you and the bulbs.
They are pretty much your common lights you use. The difference is that they can be turn on & off from your phone with the Phillips Hue app or if you set up siri, then you can just ask Siri to turn them on or off. Some light bulbs can be change in colors right from your phone app which is pretty cool to set a mood. Wireless internet is a must for these light bulbs to work. And you can also turn them on and off even if you are not home. Thats pretty cool.
They are smart bulb which are dimable and can be connect to your phone or smart device such as google home or Alexa so they can be controlled with voice commands.
