Some (but not all) USB 2.0 drives can not handle USB 3.0. If this is an absolutely mission critical file transfer, you should probably settle for USB 2.0 instead. However, if you have an extra $10 in your pocket, and have other devices that can support USB 3.0, you should probably pony up the cash, because the extra speed of USB 3.0 is worth it.
