Is buying from Best Buy, any different that buying at the Verizon store? From Verizon chat I was told "Best Buy is a third party retailer. If you upgrade or add a new line through a third party retailer like Best Buy, Walmart, Radioshack, etc., you sign their contract, not Verizon's. That means you will have additional clauses, additional fees on your bill will be added to pay them, you have to get their insurance, and if anything happens to the phone you go through them. Third party retailers are well known for wordy contracts with loopholes and high fees."I'm not believing that. Is that a True statement? Thank you

I've bought two phones through Best Buy, mainly because the phones were less expensive than at a Verizon store. Best Buy offers insurance but you don't have to get it. There are absolutely no additional fees that Best Buy applies. You pay for the cost of the phone that's advertised and the tax of the full phone price (same as Verizon store). Verizon adds a $30 phone upgrade fee once to your bill, same as if you bought the phone in their store. Hope this helps.

No I've been going through Best Buy for my phones for the past couple of years and haven't had any fees for doing so. Also best buys insurance plan is way better than Verizon.

I've upgraded twice in my Verizon account at Best Buy. I haven't run into any issues. Everything in my account had remained the same. Both times Best Buy has had better prices and more variety/choices in the color of the phones. I'm pleased with both my Verizon purchases at Best Buy (iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S5).

I just bought my phone from Best Buy and just added Verizon's insurance to it once I got it. Verizon charges a $35 activation fee no matter where you get the phone. I have not yet received a bill with the new phones on it, but reviewing my account online everything has stayed the same.

I don't think it's any different but I wanted the gold version so badly, I was willing to purchase from a third party. This is the third galaxy s phone version I've owned so I trust the quality completely. I did purchase the best buy insurance and will keep it for at least a year just in case something happens.

Not true - for instance, while I have insurance from them for my S5, I can switch to Verizon at any time - and I think I will since the seem to offer better terms. Your contract is with Verizon - not Best Buy - they make money perhaps from the phone and sales contract percentage (not much) plus from up selling accessories and the like

I am reading these 9 years later and can say Verizon still misleads customers and I’m going through Best Buy because I have so much more respect for someone who says “I don’t know, but i will find out” than someone's who wastes my time and money pretending to know what they’re talking about.

Yes, it is true. Mostly for premium retailers though such as Diamond Wireless, Z Wireless, etc. Those type of places that are authorized to sell mobile products.

It's the WORST decision a consumer can make. Sure the phone price may save you a few bucks. If within 14 days your phone malfunctions you can take it back to Best Buy BUT they want it to be as pristine as when you bought it. If it is a technical defect they can send it in for repair BUT you pay the assessment fee AND the repair fee if repairs are needed. UNLESS you paid the $50-65 insurance fee on top of the purchase price. That tales you down another rabbit hole because BEST BUY only OFFERS the insurance it is managed by another party. When I tell you DON’T DO IT, IT'S A TRICK BELIEVE ME!!
