You don't connect it to a DVD player. As for file transfers from a computer, you hook one end of the micro USB to the tablet, the other to your computer. You can use the Samsung Kies software to copy files or sync music and pictures. You can also use things like Dropbox or Google Drive to easily sync files over WiFi with it.

The standard size usb end is plugged into the wall adapter and the mini usb end plugs into the unit. Most if not all cell phones now also use the mini/micro usb chargers, the end is just a lot smaller then your standard usb ends.
